The delightful and charming village of Veryan on the Roseland Peninsula is most famous for its nineteenth century thatched Round Houses. There are five in all, two pairs of which stand at each end of the village and another in the centre. They were originally built by a missionary named Reverend Jeremiah Trist for his daughters. In a round house there are no corners where the devil can hide. A crucifix on the top of each one adds extra protection!
Veryan is ideally located for exploring the Roseland Peninsula and is only moments from the spectacular Carne Beach or the dramatic coastline around the historic fishing village of Portloe. Nearby is the lovingly restored Melinsey Mill where you can relax in a charming valley with a delicious Cornish cream tea.
There is a pub in Veryan called the New Inn which serves meals or you could enjoy some superb Crab at the Ship Inn at Portloe, only a 5 minute drive away. There are high quality restaurants at the Nare Hotel or around nearby Portscatho & St Mawes. There are village stores in Veryan or alternatively mini supermarkets at the nearby Bessy Beneath filling station or in the village of Tregony.
