A quite beautiful conversion of an old engine house in a breathtaking location on the St Anthony headland. Perched on a ridge high above Porthbeor beach, the house benefits from spectacular sea views and is surrounded by spectacular National Trust coastline. A haven for walkers or a romantic break, this luxury property is only a few steps from the coast path. Regrettably no children under the age of 3.

Andrew from Tamworth stayed at The Engine House for 7 nights in September
Cottage with stunning coastal views situated separately but within owners grounds. Be prepared for long narrow lanes (with passing places) mainly between Portscatho (about 5 miles distance) to reach property. Lovely quiet location, large private garden great for stargazing on clear nights. Within easy reach of St Mawes also Falmouth and Truro via King Harry ferry. Right on South West coastal path with great walks to nearby unspoilt beaches. Comfortable cosy detached cottage with attentive friendly owners.

It was our first visit to the Roseland and it was stunning. The Engine House has amazing sea views and is close to the SW coastal path with lovely walks to St Anthony Head (1.5 miles) where you get amazing views of St Mawes, Falmouth and the Lizard. The house was very clean and welcoming with plenty of room. Steve and Jude were very helpful and friendly and gave us tips on places to visit. The garden is large with plenty of room to sit and relax.Would strongly recommend a visit and we shall be returning.

Marcus from Harpenden stayed at The Engine House for 7 nights in April
We booked the engine house because of the stunning views in the pictures. The reality was even better. Amazing sea views from all aspects of this property including from the beautiful garden. Coastal walks were on our doorstep. The Roseland peninsula offers such tranquility. If you wish to escape the hustle and bustle this is the place. Yet the short ferry ride to st mawes brings amenities to your stay. We highly recommend this cottage and the owners are lovely.

Customer testimonials

Our stay at the Engine House was excellent - very well equipped and appointed. We could not fault it in anyway. Most impressed too with the efficiency of your service. Many thanks.
J Jackson, Apr 2011
I really just want to say that we greatly enjoyed our holiday; we were obviously extremely lucky with the weather which always makes Cornwall the best place to be and on top of that the Engine House was great - the most wonderful position, beautifully equipped, exactly as promised and extremely kind and helpful owners, so it could not have been better!
Diana S, Jul 2010
We had a fantastic time at the Engine House, thank you.

1. Thought the information you sent me up front with regards to the local areas was really useful, having a young toddler we found it really helpful with regards to beaches, places to eat, etc
2. Engine House was beautifully furnished, lovely, clean and bright and airy throughout
3. Beautiful setting and found it was lovely to have the windows open
4. In the evening, when it went chilly, we could leave the windows open as we were provided with lovely sofa throws to keep warm
5. The outlook from the house was amazing, with views of the sea and beautiful gardens no matter which window you looked out of, you either saw the sea or gardens
6. When dealing with the owner, nothing was too much of a problem, they were very friendly and helpful. We were made to feel at home and they always gave us a wave!
7. In the past, we have never been back to anywhere for a second time as we are believers that there are lots of new places to experience, however we would not think twice to going back to the Engine House

Louise Edwards, Jun 2010
A wonderful relaxing break in this charming and comfortable cottage. A trip to St Mawes was fun and we would recommend a ferry ride to Falmouth which has lots of character and many lovely shops to explore.
This is a great place for a peaceful, relaxing holiday with spectacular scenery and we really appreciate the comfort and quality of the cottage.
Ian and Melanie Harding, Feb 2010
We had a wonderful week - we loved the cottage and have done some great things. The Maritime Museum in Falmouth and the Eden Project were good alternatives to the beaches.
Alison, Mark, Bethany and Imogen, Aug 2009
It's not often that a place really is as good as it looks - but the Engine House was even better! We have had a fantastic week here, spending time on the beach, walking, a day out on the ferry, crabbing at Place, eating fish and chips and just being constantly amazed every time we next went round the next corner and saw more breathtaking views. What a truly beautiful place this is.
The Milburn Family, Jun 2009
Don't want to go home! Super cottage, immaculate and everything you could need. Very friendly owners and friendly dog and horse. Porthbeor beach, quite steep steps, but worth it. Would recommend Glendurgan gardens, especially for kids.

The Engine House is located on the dramatic St Anthony headland to the south west of Portscatho on the idyllic Roseland Peninsula. It is a quite beautiful conversion of an old engine house which once served the main house with electricity and water. It is a wonderful spot to spend a holiday. The property is fitted to high standards and will accommodate up to 4 people in 2 bedrooms. The kitchen is beautifully presented with an Electric Aga and granite worktops. The living room is simple but stylish, as are the two bedrooms and there is oak flooring throughout.

The main property sits in 4 acres of land, the Engine House has its own enclosed garden area. The coastal path passes close to the end of the drive and from here you can explore one of the most unspoilt sections of Cornwall's dramatic coastline, with magnificent promontories, secluded coves and stunning beaches. It is a haven for walkers as there are miles of footpaths to explore. It is also only a short walk down the hill to Place, where during the summer season a little passenger ferry will take you across the bay to St Mawes from where you can catch ferries to Falmouth & Truro. This is true Cornwall at its most wild and beautiful. The coastline here is owned by the National Trust and the views all around the headland are fantastic. The beach at Towan (1 mile away) rarely gets very busy and the waters are clear and excellent for swimming.

First Floor: Landing leading to main double room with sea views, main bathroom with WC and second (twin) bedroom.

Portscatho and its neighbouring village of Gerrans are located on the eastern coast of the Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall, overlooking the dramatic Gerrans Bay. A truly peaceful waterside village, Portscatho is a lovely place for a holiday. There are miles of coastal and countryside footpaths to explore, particularly along St Anthony's Head. Portscatho was once a busy fishing harbour, but now it has become a haven for artists due to the striking light which is particularly good in the morning sun. More than anything, Portscatho is a relaxing place. The beaches such as Porthcurnick, Towan and Porthbeor are simply idyllic and these are only minutes from the village. With a superb local butchers shop, 2 great little pubs and a well stocked local store, Portscatho and Gerrans are a lovely place to spend a holiday.

The Engine House is about 8 minutes drive along the St Anthony Headland from Portscatho, close to the little hamlet of Bohortha. The beaches at Towan and St Anthony are only a short drive away (about 1mile). Please do have a look at the location map for a more detailed idea of the position.
