Treworga is a peaceful little hamlet in the heart of the Roseland Peninsula, close to the villages of Tregony, Veryan and Philleigh.
The tiny tranquil Cornish village of Philleigh is in superb countryside in the heart of the rural Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall. Famous for its sixteenth cetury pub, The Roseland Inn, Philleigh is ideally located for exploring the countryside of the Roseland Peninsula whilst only a ten minute drive from the superb beaches around Portscatho. The D-Day embarkation points at Turnaware Point and Smugglers Cottage are only a short drive from Philleigh. Smugglers Cottage is also a great place for a waterside Cornish cream tea!
The delightful and charming village of Veryan is nearby and is most famous for its nineteenth century thatched Round Houses. There are five in all, two pairs of which stand at each end of the village and another in the centre. They were originally built by a missionary named Reverend Jeremiah Trist for his daughters. In a round house there are no corners where the devil can hide. A crucifix on the top of each one adds extra protection!
Veryan is ideally located for exploring the Roseland Peninsula and is only moments from the spectacular Carne Beach or the dramatic coastline around the historic fishing village of Portloe. Nearby is the lovingly restored Melinsey Mill where you can relax in a charming valley with a delicious Cornish cream tea.
The village of Tregony is often referrred to as the 'gateway to the Roseland'. The exceptionally wide Fore Street is a relic from the days when this was a busy port and market town with considerable traffic. The port has long since silted up due in part to china clay workings up stream, but Tregony has retained its charm. Tregony has an unusual clock tower on the Fore Street and the seventeenth century almshouses which boast an unusual wooden gallery. The site of a twelfth century Norman castle known as ‘Treg-ney’ from which the village got its name is situated on Tregony Hill.
The woods and riverside in the area between here and Ruan Lanihorne are fantastic to explore. The river is a firm favourite with ornithologists, the magical Lamorran Woods are alive with bluebells in the spring, you're as likely to pass deer or pheasants as you are motorists along this stretch of the Roseland. The Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project and the city of Truro are only a short drive away from Tregony. Heading further into the Roseland you can find sandy beaches at Pendower and sailing and boat trips in St Mawes.
I can't praise Vineyard Cottage highly enough, lovely owners and an immaculate, peaceful property with everything one could ever wish for on holiday, helped of course with the excellent weather I had all week, Roseland early in the year makes one wonder why anyone goes abroad. I found your booking system clear and swift, as was the email confirmation and the directions were excellent, all in all a very satisfied customer. |
