The Cover Cottage is a very well designed house with an excellent location on a hill with a great panorama to the Atlantic. All rooms of the house have a very good ambiente, in addition maritime artworks. A special highlight of te living room is the fireplace. We will recommened the Cove Cottage to others. Ellie from London stayed at Cove Cottage for 3 nights in May
We had a wonderful stay at Cove Cottage.. It's light & airy, a well fitted kitchen & comfortable beds with two lovely outside spaces for eating which we were able to use (despite the Cornish weather!). The best thing is the location, right on the Harbour with beautiful & dramatic walks along the coast path in both directions... Local pub very welcoming & fabulous meal at The Lugger hotel next door... All perfect for a special birthday weekend away..

exellent position very spacious in abeautiful harbour location no negatives really perhaps main bathroom could do with a revamp and possibly some redecorating but we were made to feel really welcome with wine hot cross buns and a nice card. Small touches like this make a huge difference all in all perfect holiday perfect cottage

This is a beautiful cottage in a stunning location, overlooking the small slipway/harbour. The coast path passes right outside the door and a pub and hotel are a very short walk away.

Peter from Farnham stayed at Cove Cottage for 7 nights in September
We enjoyed our week with the two small dogs in Cove Cottage, comfortable, stylish and just a few feet from the cliffs, harbour and The Lugger Hotel. Portloe itself lacked amenities such as a village shop and there was only intermittent mobile 'phone and TV reception. A small omission was that no toilet roll was provided in the bathroom. Also there was no large towel rail for the bath towels - there was a small heated towel rail and hook behind the door. The cottage was very close to the upmarket Lugger Hotel which served expensive but value-for-money food. We found it a good base for touring this part of Cornwall - if you don't mind the single-track roads.

Sonia from Sheffield stayed at Cove Cottage for 6 nights in September
I chose Cove Cottage from the site based on the photos and location. I was delighted with my choice on arrival. The communication beforehand and arrival instructions were clear and easy to follow. The cottage is gorgeous, nicely appointed with lots of pretty features. Parking was fine. I couldn't park outside everyday but was able to park outside the church at the top of the road. The cottage is near the slipway so the sound of the water was so nice to fall asleep to. Lovely view from the bedroom window. There is a raised deck area which was really pleasant to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. I stayed with my dog. The outside area was gated, making it into a perfect enclosed space. I would definitely recommend Cove Cottage and will book again for next year.

Alan from Doncaster stayed at Cove Cottage for 7 nights in September
We wanted a really relaxing holiday in lovely surroundings and that is exactly what we got. The cottage is very homely and cosy, and all very comfortable, the main bedroom had the lovely view of the harbour to wake up to through a small window, and we could here the sea at nightime with the window open. Everything worked very well, especially the dishwasher! The only slight downside was that the rear patio is also access to the neighbouring properties, and as we had our dog with us, we had to make sure both gates were closed, but there were very few people using the right of way to the other couple of houses adjacent, and they were all very friendly and helpful. Lovely cottage and location with very friendly locals and other holiday makers. Would certainly return thankyou.

Customer testimonials

Cove Cottage is brilliantly located a stone's throw from the harbour and beach right in the heart of the quintessential Cornish fishing village of Portloe. The entrance level is open plan with a spacious lounge at one end and kitchen dining room at the other, an open fire to keep you warm in the winter and a sun trap of a terrace which is surprisingly private being this close to the harbour.

Portloe is one of those perfect little Cornish fishing villages, beautifully positioned around a stunning little cove and harbour. Like many such villages, smuggling played a large part in Portloe's history with many tales of cat and mouse games played between locals and the authorities! In 1824, the problem became so bad that Customs ordered the construction of a Watch House, boathouse and slipway in a vain attempt to deter the illicit trade.

The Roseland Peninsula is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and forms one of the finest sections of Cornwall's South Coast. From Mevagissey to St Mawes and bordered by the Fal Estuary to the west, the Roseland Peninsula has been drawing visitors for years with its splendid coastline, unique gardens, historic villages and superb sailing waters. A truly magnificent part of Cornwall, the Roseland Peninsula is a wonderful place to spend a memorable holiday. With The Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden Project in one direction and Falmouth and the National Maritime Museum in the other the Roseland is brimming with places to visit and things to do.

Portloe is considered by many to be the jewel in the crown of the Roseland peninsula and one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall. The steep sided valley has meant that it has managed to escape development over the years and many buildings differ little from when they were built. Sir John Betjeman said of Portloe "One of the least spoiled and most impressive of Cornish fishing villages". Broom Parc, the country house setting (now a B&B) for the Camomile Lawn a 1992 TV drama is a short walk up the coast path.

It is wonderfully quiet and peaceful, yet it has a really good local pub & hotel. The village itself is only a short drive from the other villages such as St Mawes. The city of Truro is also within a 25 minute drive. The Lugger Hotel with its excellent restaurant is only a few steps away and the Ship Inn is a short walk. The New Inn at Veryan serves food. There is also the Portloe Tea Room nearby. There is no general store in Portloe, however there are shops at Veryan (1.4 miles) and a Londis store at Bessy Beneath (3 miles). Further pubs, shops & restaurants are also available in Tregony, Ruan Lanihorne, Portscatho & St Mawes.

Portscatho and its neighbouring village of Gerrans are located on the eastern coast of the Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall, overlooking the dramatic Gerrans Bay. A truly peaceful waterside village, Portscatho is a lovely place for a holiday. There are miles of coastal and countryside footpaths to explore, particularly along past Towan beach and out to St Anthony's Head. Portscatho was once a busy fishing harbour, but now it has become a haven for artists due to the striking light which is particularly good in the morning sun. More than anything, Portscatho is a relaxing place. The beaches such as Porthcurnick, Towan and Porthbeor are simply idyllic and these are only minutes from the village. With a superb local butchers shop, 2 great little pubs and a well-stocked local store, Portscatho and Gerrans are a lovely place to spend a holiday.

St Mawes Castle, built by Henry VIII in the 16th century sits on Castle Point at the mouth of the River Fal. At the top of St Mawes, Lamorran Gardens house a wonderful collection of tropical plants with lovely views down into the Harbour. St Just-in-Roseland has arguably the most photographed church in Cornwall. The 13th century church sits quietly tucked away on the edge of the creek. The Veryan Roundhouses are a must see, on the way to Nare Head, where you will find the most spectacular views of Gerrans Bay. The little village of Portloe nestles in lovely valley and is one of Cornwall's quintessential spots. Portscatho has a number of art galleries and many artists find the light in this harbour village inspires much of their work. The Roseland Inn at Philleigh is a 16th century pub just waiting for you to visit, as is the newly refurbished Smugglers Cottage at Tolverne, perfect for that afternoon Cornish Cream Tea, now run by Tregothnan Estate home to the UK's first tea plantation. The most popular thing to do though on the Roseland is simply to walk and enjoy some of Cornwall's most beautiful coastline.

Events on the Roseland reach fever point in August when sailing regattas, carnivals, fayres and fun days take place all over the Roseland and the waters of the Carrick Roads. It is a memorable place for many people who return year after year to enjoy the magic of this beautiful place.
