Short review says it all. Excellent accommodation, high enough up for the wonderful view, yet only a 5 minute walk down into the town. Apartment has everything you need for a comfortable stay, owners live above, friendly and helpful.

The Hideaway came highly recommended & was richly deserved. The views from the property were amazing. It was spacious, warm & comfortable. Gail & Nigel were very welcoming & Nigel came to the rescue when we had car problems. An excellent stay that we will recommend to friends.

Jeremy from Monmouth stayed at Hideaway for 4 nights in February
Our weekend in Mid February was the coldest of the year in the UK yet Gail and Nigel gave us the warmest of welcomes and ensured that their oh so comfortable apartment was tropically warm. We would have been content to enjoy the panoramic views over St Mawes and the Falmouth estuary and Helford river coastline without even going outside. We did of course and found Trellisk and Trebah gardens three months ahead of the UK with camellias and daffs in full flower and Rhododendrons beginning to open. A perfect weekend.

A beautiful location on the hill ensuring fabulous views from every room. The clever design means you feel secluded but the lovely, friendly owners are not far away if you need them. Just a short walk into town it provided the best of both worlds being able to walk to the pub, or enjoy staying at the house taking in the amazing view- would definitely stay again!

We have stayed at Hideaway twice and have already booked our stay for next year. The owners, who live on site, are friendly and helpful. The property is faultless and the view is to die for. We have been lucky with the weather for the time of year but even when it rained a couple of times the place is so comfortable it is actually nice to have an excuse, if one is needed, to lounge on the sofa and watch the clouds, read a book or play a game. If you are into cooking on holiday then the kitchen is better stocked than any holiday cottage I have ever stayed in - you could take on any "bake-off" challenge or cook a full Sunday roast if the fancy took you. When the sun shines you have a huge terrace with sun loungers and a barbecue. The beach is a few minutes walk away.

We enjoyed returning to St Mawes this year. We were delighted with Hideaway. the location is second to none- and the accommodation did not disappoint. It was lovely to wake up to a fantastic sea view! The owners were very friendly and did their utmost to accommodate our needs. Just as superb as the photos on the website show. To wake up to those views is just amazing. The owners have thought of everything you could possibly need. The quality of fitments, furnishings etc is just first class. To sit out on the terrace and look out to St Anthony Head is probably the best view of any property I have seen anywhere, it was like being in a dream. Loved every minute of the stay.

We have holidayed in Cornwall several times but this is the best accommodation and location we have experienced. Superb sea views from large windows and within easy reach of St Mawes centre. Even though the weather was unkind, we enjoyed the the comfort and leisure afforded by this luxury apartment and will certainly plan to go again.

We stayed at Hideaway for a week in early June. A fabulously located cottage with a stunning view from the lounge and bedrooms. Even if the weather is poor, you can enjoy looking out from inside the cosy lounge. Most days, we were lucky enough to be able to sit out on the spacious and sunny terrace. The cottage is really well equipped with crockery, cooking utencils etc. The bed was really comfortable and the shower was good which is always a bonus. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to our friends.

We loved staying at the Hideway cottage. I will like to rate this cottage beyond excellent. I would love to re visit the cottage with family and friends in the near future. Nigel & Gail are were very polite and helpful. The view from the cottage is just amazing. The fireplace in the cottage and the light effects made our evenings memorable, we enjoyed all our meals. We didn't feel like going to the restaurants. A big Well Done! to Nigel and Gail. Look forward to visiting again :)

The accommodation is located in the ideal place in St Mawes, 4 minutes walk from the centre but sufficiently far to be quite and to have an EXCELLENT view. It has been refitted very recently and is in perfect condition. To top it all the owners are totally charming and will be able to give you some guidance on where to visit and eat. It makes for a pretty perfect combination.

Kelly from Billinghay stayed at Hideaway for 7 nights in October
Hideaway has been finished to a high standard and has got everything you need, even the children got their own bathroom! It's location is fantastic and as long as you're not afraid of a small hill climb, the views are spectacular. Nigel and Gail were wonderful hosts and a real credit to holiday rentals. Don't be put off by the compact kitchen mentioned by others; it has everything you need and honestly I dont cook banquets when I'm on holiday so kitchen space really wasn't a problem. Plenty of books available to keep you occupied and an on hand washer and dryer proving invaluable in bad weather with kids. St Mawes itself is a great location and had it not been foggy all week we would have done more walking around the peninsular but rain or shine both cottage and location were a fab choice with some wonderful pubs to while away the evenings playing games with the kids. There are some steps to access the apartment so baby buggies might struggle but I fully recommend Hideaway to couples and families alike.

Hideaway is a really special place to stay, the location is wonderful with stunning views of the bay. The accommodation is exellent, however the kitchen is on the small side when there are 4 persons staying although extremely well equipped. The bedrooms and the living room are very comfortable and the bathrooms first class. The terrace is large and again well equipped as is the laundry room. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and will definately return at some time in the future. Mr and Mrs Wakley are excellent hosts and we found them to be extremely helpful in every way. A wonderful find.

Hideaway is literally a hidden gem ! Nigel and Gail, the owners, were very welcoming and accommodating and helped us to settle in quickly. The flat has an amazing view of the waterfront at St Mawes and over to Place from the lounge and both bedrooms which provided all the entertainment we needed. The flat was furnished to a very high standard and equipped very well. If you are a cooking enthusiast, you may find the kitchen a little on the tight side, but it was very well equipped and we found it was great for our needs. Hideaway is also very handy for St Mawes - just a quick walk down a 'secret' alley (as named by our children) and you arrive in the centre of the village, which we found very useful for our regular ice-cream forays and eating out. A great base for a relaxing or active holiday !

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in St Mawes at Hideaway . It's a beautiful little Apartment that worked for the four of us, with everything we wanted to make us feel at home. The area is a little hilly so we got plenty of exercise! But the views from our rooms were absolutely stunning. Our hosts were friendly, helpful and informative.

A really super holiday home. Thank you so much for all the help you gave.
The Hughes Family, Jul 2014

Hideaway occupies the ground floor of the Owner’s house, yet it is completely self contained with its own entrance from the driveway. Once on the lower level, the view that will greet you is nothing less than astonishing. Occupying a grandstand position overlooking the bay, this apartment is a magical place to spend a holiday. This quiet corner of St Mawes is within a three - four minute walk of the harbour (a little longer back up the hill) with its pubs and restaurants, but is completely separated from the hustle and bustle of the village. It is no wonder that this part of St Mawes has some of the most sought after properties in the South West of England.

The apartment itself is designed to make the most of the views. The living room has a superb triple sliding door which opens onto the terrace. The kitchen is compact but well equipped. The master bedroom also has a huge sliding door so you can lie in bed and take in the lovely sea views! The twin bedroom also has great views. There is also a separate WC. There are 14 steps down on the outside with a handrail to reach the apartment. At the top of the steps is the boat house with the use of the utility room with washing machine and tumble drier and a large shower which is really handy after a day at the beach!

Accommodation
Lower Ground Floor Only: Living room with comfortable sofas and sea views, through to kitchen. Master double bedroom with 5” double bed and sliding doors to patio terrace. En-suite bathroom with a bath and separate shower cubicle. Twin bedroom with an en-suite shower room. Upper level, next to Boat House : Utility room with small washing kitchen and large shower cubicle.
Exterior: Patio terrace with a lovely table, chairs and a couple of sun loungers

Facilities & Services

St Mawes is one of the finest waterside villages in Cornwall. Situated overlooking an idyllic bay on the eastern side of the famous Falmouth Estuary, St Mawes has one of the mildest climates in Britain due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream. The sea is at the heart of the village and has helped to shape St Mawes from the little fishing village to the fashionable holiday destination that is so popular with visitors. A mecca for boating enthusiasts, St Mawes is a particularly popular sailing centre. Weekly club racing, village regattas and larger events are commonplace on the superb waters of the bay all through the summer.

St Mawes has so much to offer the visitor. St Mawes Castle was built by Henry VIII and is a splendid place to take in the views of the Carrick Roads. There are miles of coastal and countryside walks to take in and some idyllic beaches on which to relax and watch the world go by. The little Place Ferry takes visitors to explore St Anthony's Head or there are regular ferries to Falmouth. Being situated on the seafront, the village is also known for the restaurants and pubs that serve superb fish and shellfish dishes all year round. There is a selection of pubs & hotels with restaurants (including the renowned Tresanton Hotel) all within easy walking distance. There is a range of shops all within a few minutes’ walk including a well-stocked Cooperative store, Post Office, chemist, butchers, and art, book and clothes shops. The village also has a doctor’s surgery and a dentist’s surgery.
