Stephen from Bracknell stayed at Peel Cottage for 7 nights in September
The cottage provided an excellent base for our stay in St Mawes. It is surprisingly large, very clean, tidy and comfortable, and has everything you could need. It is located just a few minutes walk from the seafront of St Mawes and all the shops and restaurants. It is situated on quite a steep hill, so getting into and out of the car parking spaces needs a little care and some might find the walk back up to the cottage a little difficult. Lots of useful information was provided before we arrived and also in the cottage. The building work that was ongoing behind the cottage during our stay didn't really bother us at all. Over all we really enjoyed our stay in the cottage and would definitely consider staying there again. If only the weather had been a little better!
Reply from OwnerThank you so much for your lovely review, we're really pleased you enjoyed staying at our cottage.... and hope you have much better weather next time you return to St Mawes ! With best wishes, R&S.

The accomadation was great with the garden being a bonus. The pictures on the website do the property a disservice as all the floors & bathrooms have been updated so that was a pleasant surprise. Would definitely stay at the property again.

Claire from Braintree stayed at Peel Cottage for 7 nights in July
We recently had a week's break at Peel Cottage. The cottage itself is modern and nicely decorated throughout. A lot of thought has obviously been put into equipping the property, with impressive attention to detail - down to dishwasher tablets and a shopping bag. The centre of the pretty village is only a short walk away (although it's steep) for eating out, groceries, drinks at the Tresanton etc. Lots of options for travel from St. Mawes - we particularly enjoyed trips on the ferry to Falmouth and St. Anthony's Head Although the weather was a bit hit or miss, we found loads to do and places to visit

St Mawes is a regular holiday destination for our family, and this was our third visit to this property, in its convenient location - though as with most of the village, the short walk to the seafront is steep! Peel Cottage has been given a makeover by the new owners, with refurbished garden, bathrooms and flooring. Everything we needed for a comfortable stay was provided. A welcome tea tray included luxury biscuits for us and our dog, and we all enjoyed our visit. Building work nearby wasn't a problem, but we received a discount on the rental price - not the only kind gesture from the owners. They, and their local property manager, ensured that Peel Cottage provided all we could wish for.
Reply from OwnerMany thanks for your kind comments, and for being such lovely guests. We were very pleased to welcome you back again and trust it won't be too long until you are able to return to St Mawes. With very best wishes, R&S

Lucy from Solihull stayed at Peel Cottage for 7 nights in September
Peel Cottage has a lovely homely feel and is very well maintained and equipped. There have been some noticeable improvements to the interior decor and kitchen equipment since my last stay, and lovely new garden furniture on the patio as well. The cottage offers peace and quiet away from the main village, whilst only being a very short walk up Hill Head (which definitely keeps you fit!). You do have to think about how to park the car at the front of the cottage due to being on a hillside, but holiday cottages with their own parking in St Mawes are becoming harder to find and it is so convenient to have. The pathway at the back of the property is also a good altenative route into the village and not heavily used. For me, Peel Cottage offers excellent value for money staying in a lovely home. I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will definitely be booking again!

We loved staying at Peel cottage. Very well equipped with everything a family of four could require and the most conveniently located position of any we have stayed in in Cornwall so far, with only a short stumble down the hill to the nearest ice-cream and beach. What more could anyone desire? Lovely, lovely cottage which made for a splendid holiday. Huge thanks.

Diane from Barningham stayed at Peel Cottage for 7 nights in September
Overall we had a lovely holiday at Peel Cottage. The only reservations would be the downstairs shower, which was very hard to direct where needed, and the fact that there were only 7 mugs, which meant they had to be washed by hand each time we had a drink (or wait until the dishwasher had finished it's cycle) - and we drank a lot of tea! There was plenty of other crockery so this seemed very unusual. The house and garden however were lovely and had everything else you would need and it was a nice surprise to have a tray with biscuits etc, and fresh flowers when we arrived.
Reply from OwnerWe are delighted that you all enjoyed staying at the cottage and are most grateful for your feedback... additional mugs will be provided and the shower is due for replacement when we upgrade the bathrooms early next year. With best wishes, R&S

Louise from London stayed at Peel Cottage for 7 nights in August
We found this a comfortable, well equipped cottage, with plenty of space for 6 adults if needed. The bedrooms on the 1st floor were particularly spacious and light. The house has been recently redecorated in a clean modern style but little decorative touches make it homely. the tea, biscuits and flowers were very welcoming. We loved being able to walk down to the quayside in 3 minutes for the bus and boats.

Had a good week in St Mawes. Vehicle access is difficult with parking on a slope that was intimidating to drive away from. The cottage is very well equipped and has easy access to the centre of St Mawes, albeit steep uphill on the way back. Good walking in the area.

Peel Cottage offers everything and more and is a beautifully clean and well maintained home from home. All details of a comfortable stay have been taken into account and we really wanted for nothing. There is a private patio'd garden which is wrapped in flowers and foliage with a large outdoor dining area It was beautifully laid out and is clearly a cared for cottage. There is a two minute walk to the lovely harbour and central to many beaches and places of interest. I would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely cottage and will definitely be returning.

After enjoying our stay at Peel Cottage in October we were pleasantly surprised to see that the cottage had been redecorated. It felt fresh and welcoming. There were even treats for the dog. We love the location just a few steps from the harbour, shops, ferries and pubs. We certainly didn't want to leave at the end of the week - it felt like home.

Lisa from Battle stayed at Peel Cottage for 7 nights in April
We found Peel cottage very basic for the cost. It felt a bit 'tired' and there were maintenance jobs that needed doing. We found the beds uncomfortable and the notes everywhere about cleaning after ourselves, dog rules and stripping beds before we leave off putting when you first arrive. Although I am sure there are occasions when people do not take care when they stay most people do. It took away from the relaxation needed on holiday. On a positive note it was minutes walk from the harbour so a perfect location and very quiet.
Reply from OwnerMany thanks for providing some feedback on Peel Cottage, we value your comments and are only sorry that it didn't meet your expectations on this occasion. As mentioned in the previous review, we have just bought the property and are working hard to enhance the facilities. Indeed, it has already been redecorated throughout and a number of other improvements are also planned during the next few months. We were pleased you found the location good and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Best wishes, S&R

Really recommend the cottage. Any quibbles in older reviews seem to have been addressed. Great layout, really comfortable, well-equipped, comfortable beds, welcomed with flowers and Cornish biscuits. Best of all is St Mawes on your doorstep and we were just in time before dogs banned on beaches and crowds arrive. Thanks a lot.

We had a very enjoyable stay. An added bonus was that a Christmas tree and a few decorations had been put up for us. A lovely touch. We were disappointed that there wasn't a few essentials like fairy liquid, soaps, dishwasher capsules would have been nice to have a few things to see us through the first night. Rather untidy front of the house full of weeds. The mattress covers were very stained and the floors were far too slippery. My 4 year old son, fell over on numerous occasions.

We all enjoyed our holiday in Peel cottage. The cottage was well maintained and very well equipped with the exception perhaps of the washing machine which was rather noisy. The position was good just a couple of minutes from the sea. St Mawes itself is a beautiful resort with a number of good pubs / restaurants and the views are outstanding . The Roseland peninsula has numerous first class beaches and we tried to visit as many as possible. We did however miss quite a few which means another visit. If this is the case we would certainly consider Peel Cottage to stay.

We - four adults and two small children - had a lovely time at Peel Cottage. It felt more like a home than a holiday cottage and who could ask for more? We would recommend this house to anyone. Not only was the house excellent, it is only a short distance from the centre of St Mawes. Many of St Mawes' houses are a long way up very steep and narrow roads so its location was a real bonus. The kitchen was the best equipped we have so far experienced in a holiday cottage. Dermot and Angela Bambridge

We didn't expect to be back in St. Mawes quite so soon after our week at this property in October but we thought it was right and fitting as our beautiful German Shepherd spent her last holiday there. As usual the accommodation met all our requirements and, hopefully, we will be looking to return sometime in 2015.

Lovely cottage that suited us very well and was so handy for walking into St Mawes. If I could change anything I would install either a shower or shower attachment on the taps in the upstairs bathroom and opaque glass on the windows there and in the toilet downstairs. Although it didn't bother us too much the cottage is overlooked on all sides with a public footpath running directly at the bottom of a very small patio garden that makes you feel a bit exposed. I also didn't like the tone of the message about leaving the cottage clean when you leave. There are cleaning products and equipment left all around the place although I would expect that part of the weekly fee is allocated to cleaning at the end of your stay. I'm on holiday!! I don't want a constant reminder about scrubbing the bath with a threat of losing my deposit!!!!

Before writing this I had a look at what other people had written and was astonished by the negative review of July 27th which says more about the visitor than the property. The house was exactly as it looked on the internet. Bright, well-furnished, comfortable - was particularly impressed with the carpet ( stairs and upstairs bedrooms). We thought the little path at the back was charming and took it every day in preference to the road which was v. narrow for cars and pedestrians. The garden furniture looked like what you'd expect garden furniture to look like if it's out in all weathers. It was perfectly ok to sit on outside. Towels have obviously been a problem. We had huge bath sheets and a hand towel in each bathroom which I thought was enough but one of our number wanted her own hand towel. Yes an upstairs shower would be nice but we just shared bathrooms/shower as the need arose. The use of the telephone was much appreciated as no mobile phone signal in the house and we needed to make some onward reservations before leaving. The flowers and the biscuits were a nice touch. With the Coop staying open until 10.00 p.m. its easy enough to get basic rations on arrival. St Mawes itself was delightful - busy but laid-back at the same time. Butcher, baker, small supermarket, fish and chips, several pubs/ hotels with sea view terraces. We particularly enjoyed having freshly baked croissants from the harbour bakery each morning. We were a mixed German and English party and we all loved the whole experience (apart from having to drive on narrow winding roads, with high banks, buses and locals who drive like the clappers....!)

We stayed at Peel a Cottage for a week with son, daughter in law and baby. The cottage was spotlessly clean and there was a lovely vase of flowers to welcome us. It would have been helpful to have had a shower over bath upstairs but otherwise no criticism at all. It's a great advantage in St Mawes to have 2 parking spaces in the drive. Ample room for 2 cars to park. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Most cottages have a cleaner who comes in and cleans between lettings. Not this one. There is a notice in the cottage that as good as says that the occupier is expected to clean it before they leave and strip the beds. I don't mind keeping the place tidy while we are there but at the price charged for the cottage it should be professionally cleaned. The back yard contained dog mess which was reported to Cornwall Cottages but no one ever came to remove it or disinfect the patio. No Sky TV only freeview and you do not even get all the channels. You don't go on holiday to watch TV but it is nice in the evenings and in bad weather. Only one towel provided per guest. This is a small "bath towel" which would hardly dry a child. The outside of the property looked dirty and the plants in the back are overgrown and a mess. Garden furniture was filthy. There is a path running behind the cottage so there is no privacy but this is not mentioned in the brochure. The vestibule had a damp dirty smell but that may have been due to the black, dirty mop and bucket that had been left there. A hose was left lying at the front of the property and the parking area could just accomodate the car if parked at an angle. All in all, I expected a lot better for the money. No tea coffee or milk when we arrived which would have been a welcoming touch after a long journey. We were not made to feel welcome in the cottage at all. Not a luxury cottage, an average, basic cottage at a luxury price. My personal view is that the price is inflated just because it is St. Mawes. If you can smell the sea the price goes up, if you can see the sea by standing on a chair and craning your neck, well?

We were lucky with the weather this year but lots of summers are cold and damp and if so, I would like the ability to turn the heating on (it was disabled for the summer). Towels were very piddly. Would have been good to have proper sized towels when coming out of shower. Otherwise, a very pleasant stay, thank you. PS: could not find a cheese grater!

We really enjoyed our stay at Peel Cottage. Nicely decorated and furnished lounge dining room, well equipped kitchen. Bedrooms very nice with lots of wardrobe space bed linen lovely and soft! Bathrooms very clean, good powerful shower in the downstairs bathroom, our only small gripe was that it would have been good to have had another shower in the upstairs bathroom. Nicely laid out area at the back of the house. Close to the harbour and town centre, which had lots of good places to eat.

Very comfortable - like home from home. As one of our pets is elderly - the cottage was perfect for her as well. Every need catered for and not too far from the front.

We had a very pleasant stay at Peel cottage. It is in a lovely location with a view of the sea from the back bedroom. The cottage was roomy, much more than we expected from a property in Cornwall. Great facilities especially the shower which makes the stay even more comfortable. Just a shame the weather was not great as we would have liked to have made use of the patio at the back.

Cottage very comfortable, had everything you could need. Cottage manager replied very quickly when we had a problem. One suggestion would be to provide more and larger bath towels but that is the only criticism. Would certainly return to Peel cottage again.

Perfect location and very comfortable cottage. Lots of places to visit and easily accessible from St Mawes. St Mawes was everything we wanted, quiet beaches to walk the dog, great pubs and lovely welcoming people. We will be booking again

Could have done with proper clean, dead flowers in vase on table, dirty garden furniture. Missing personnel touch! Stair gate would be a good idea, St mawes is outstanding.

We had yet another fabulous holiday at Peel Cottage, this lovely little house was as welcoming as ever... and spotlessly clean. We have been staying at this property for many years and it never fails to disappoint.

St Mawes is one of the finest waterside villages in Cornwall. Situated overlooking an idyllic bay on the eastern side of the famous Falmouth Estuary, St Mawes has one of the mildest climates in Britain due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream. The sea is at the heart of the village and has helped to shape St Mawes from the little fishing village to the fashionable holiday destination that is so popular with visitors. A mecca for boating enthusiasts, St Mawes is a particularly popular sailing centre. Weekly club racing, village regattas and larger events are commonplace on the superb waters of the bay all through the summer.

St Mawes has so much to offer the visitor. St Mawes Castle was built by Henry VIII and is a splendid place to take in the views of the Carrick Roads. There are miles of coastal and countryside walks to take in and some idyllic beaches on which to relax and watch the world go by. The little Place Ferry takes visitors to explore St Anthony's Head or there are regular ferries to Falmouth. Being situated on the seafront, the village is also known for the restaurants and pubs that serve superb fish and shellfish dishes all year round. There is a selection of pubs & hotels with restaurants (including the renowned Tresanton Hotel) all within easy walking distance. There is a range of shops all within a few minutes’ walk including a well-stocked Cooperative store, Post Office, chemist, butchers, and art, book and clothes shops. The village also has a doctor’s surgery and a dentist’s surgery.
