Customer testimonials

A lovely little place to stay for the two of us and our dog. Great view over the Percuil river estuary, you can watch the tide ebb and flow and the world go by. Only 5 minutes walk (or paddle) from the bright lights of St Mawes. The Victory Inn is a proper pub, The Rising Sun does an excellent fish supper, the Co-op shop is open late for essential supplies. Only 20 minute ferry ride to the metropolis of Falmouth. A perfect place for an October break, when the weather is still warm and the crowds are gone. Husband happy kayaking around a fantastic coast. Very few streetlights means at night it is very dark, could see the Milky Way on a clear night. Only bad point was the electric shower was a bit temperamental, but the hot water for the bath was nice and hot. Overall a lovely, calm and quiet place and we would love to come again. As soon as you walk through the door the view hits you and you instantly feel on holiday! to sit outside eating and drinking with such a stunning view will remain with you for a long time. it was so quiet and tranquil all tension and stress just melts away. would recommend the quarterdeck for a special meal as well. lovely! This was the second time we had stayed at The Boathouse. The location is second to none, particularly if you are interested in sailing - a beautiful setting, with well nigh permanent water for a mooring and easy access on foot to St Mawes. We did not use the car for a week. The accommodation is well presented and the owners were helpful over our individual requirements. Beaches, walks, a small supermarket and good butchers all within walking distance. Highly recommended. Rated 4.7 / 5.0

We had a wonderful week at The Boathouse. The views and the lovely balcony are incredibly beautiful and are unbeatable features of this property. You can sit all day long and watch the boats go by - an amazingly peaceful and relaxing experience. We even went for a swim right from our doorstep because it was so hot and sunny. Our only suggestion would be to add some deckchairs so that guests can make the most of the balcony in summer. The property in itself is nicely decorated, charming and quite cosy, yet a bit compact - however, it doesn't matter as long as you can use the space outside. The bunk bed is lovely to look at and comfy to lie in, but can feel a bit claustrophobic for two. As there are no outside windows in the bedroom, it got a bit hot and stuffy during these warm summer nights, so that one of us slept on the sofa bed in the living room instead. We noticed people using the shed and slipway of the boathouse regularly, but didn't mind at all - we did not in the least feel disturbed, it happened only once a day and people (probably the owners?) were very discreet. However, we found it a bit odd that no one turned up, but since everything was nicely prepared and worked fine, there was no real need for a contact person. We really enjoyed the cream tea on arrival - what a very nice welcome! The walking distance to St Mawes is perfectly short, we only used the car once during the whole week! The co-op in the village is well stocked and supplies everything the holidaymaker might need. For a wider choice of shops you can easily hop onto the ferry to Falmouth - we went into a kind of shopping frenzy there and stuffed our bags with all kinds of beautifully designed souvenirs! All in all it was a wonderful experience and one of the most special places we have ever been to. St Mawes has become real dear to us - we will certainly revisit. Rated 4.0 / 5.0

We had a really good week here. On arrival all was very clean and tidy, and a cream tea to welcome us. The views from the balcony were great, you would never tire of them as there was always something going on, whether it was the sailing club out, or the moored boats simply turning with the tide. The boat store underneath the property is in use, but the users did not disturb us, in fact when we leaned over the balcony to have a look, they were a very well behaved friendly bunch who stopped to say hello, and it was good to see them out in their dinghy's or on their paddle boards. We didn't hire a boat ourselves but if you did want to you could I think. The accommodation itself was functional and comfortable, set well away from the main road down a gravel track. Some have commented on the cramped bedroom, admittedly it is not large but we found it quite adequate. It is a 10 minute walk along to St Mawes, where there are a couple of pubs and several hotels should you wish to eat out. The Rising Sun does some nice meals and a good range of beers as well. We enjoyed a couple of walks, particularly round to St Just in Roseland. Also the boat/ferry services are good. We used the ferry to go up the river to Trelissick Gardens. It is a one off property that really appealed to us. You can sit out on the balcony, have a lingering breakfast and just chill out for hours if you want to. We certainly intend to return in the future. Rated 4.7 / 5.0

The best location in st mawes, relaxing watching the boats sail past on the river, short and pleasant walk to the village with good pubs and supermarket. Handy for the ferry into either Falmouth or Truro. Every you need in the boathouse all you need to take is food and clothes. Will be back again. Rated 5.0 / 5.0

Having stayed in St Mawes five years ago and finding it a beautiful place we decided to return. Locating The Boat House with its fantastic location with views straight onto the water was brilliant. Spending many hours just watching the boats and the activities on the water. Would definitely return and have recommended this to all our friends and family. Rated 4.2 / 5.0

Wonderful place to stay. Very relaxing watching the boats going about the river. View is amazing. Only 5 minutes walk to the centre. Basic inside but has everything you need for a great holiday. Will definitely be booking again. Rated 4.3 / 5.0

The Boathouse has to have one of the best locations in St Mawes! We really enjoyed our week here, despite the weather. We found the property well equipped and comfortable. The views from the property are simply stunning and we enjoyed watching all the activity on the water. We really appreciated the lovely cream tea on arrival!! The only negative I would say is that we didn't have as much privacy as we had hoped for. We didn't realise that the slip way and garden would be in very regular use by various people. I notice that the property details have been updated to say that the slipway is in regular use by the owner. (I don't recall seeing that when I booked it, so I think it may have been recently updated?). We know this wouldn't be a problem for most people, but we do like privacy and felt that we were unable to use the garden/ balcony whilst the people were there. Rated 4.7 / 5.0

Fantastic location, watching the boats & wildlife & the tide go in & out. Easy walking distance to St mawes to good pubs & restaurants recommend the Watch House good food & friendly staff. The Boathouse was ready when they said it would be & we did not see the owners but they were there if we needed them for anything. Parking was secure & of the road. Lovely patio area to eat out if weather allows, overlooking the water. Very enjoyable week. Rated 4.5 / 5.0

We have been coming to St Mawes for years and The Boathouse has the best location. We enjoyed swimming from the slipway and boating. Thoroughly wonderful week!

Location could not be better. Evenings and mornings watching the river traffic, sounds and sparkle on the water idyllic. The Boathouse has it all.
B Sweetman, Jul 2013
Absolutely loved our week in The Boathouse. The weather could not have been better. We have eaten at The Rising un, The Victory and Chandlers - all lovely. We hired a boat for the day and travelled around the whole of the River Fal - stopped at Castaways in Mylor Harbour for an amazing lunch! The dogs have loved playing fetch with the ball off the little jetty and the house could not be in a better position! See you next year!
Kate & Rebekah & Pups, Worcs, Jul 2013
Our stay at the boathouse was above our expectations. You could not find a better location on the riverside and within easy walking distance of pubs and restaurants The boathouse was equipped with everything you needed all you had to take was food. Will be returning again next year and did not need to consider an alternative. Rated 5.0 / 5.0

A fabulous holiday in a fabulous place with fabulous weather! What more can we say. "Absolutely Fabulous"!!
Carole & Pete, West Midlands, May 2013
Stunning location in all weathers! And so much to do on land or on the water. Hire a boat for the day to mooch around the estuaries and moor up at the Pandora Inn at Restronguet for lunch. Driftwood Hotel at Rosevine has to be worth a mention for a decadent treat. Take the ferry over to Place and walk round the headland, or meander up to St Just and contemplate in the beauty of the graveyard.
The Stocktons, Derbyshire, May 2013
Lovely relaxing stay. Stunning position and Boathouse. All we needed here. Very comfy stay. One problem - we don't own it! We will be back.

After the long drive we just parked the car and spent the whole week just walking, coming back to watch the light fade with a glass of wine on the patio. Beautiful views everywhere, comfortable accommodation at the end of the day. What more could you ask?

Came on holiday for a rest and fell in love with a house. What a view!! Did not really want to go anywhere but the walk to St Just very worthwhile and food at Heligan fantastic.

The Boathouse in St Mawes is one of the most delightful places to stay in Cornwall. The Boathouse is a skilfully converted former sail loft fronting directly on to the Percuil River with exposed beams and wonderful views across to Place Manor and St Mawes Harbour. From your balcony or the sitting room you can watch the boats passing slowly by, or maybe look out for some of the varied wildlife that inhabits the river.

St Mawes Harbour with its shops, pubs and hotels is a short walk away along the seafront. From the harbour in St Mawes, you can take ferries to Falmouth, Truro, Place Manor and many other parts of the estuary. The harbour itself is a great place to watch the world. Take in a coffee, read the newspaper, watch the ferries come and go, take a stroll to the St Mawes Castle, have a cream tea at the Hotel Tresanton!

The Boathouse is superbly located for those wanting to get out on the water. You can bring a small dinghy and use the private slipway in front of the property. The owners are able to organise dinghy and dayboat sailing or organise yacht cruises at an additional cost. A small rowing dinghy is also available to hire. For boats up to 20 feet, there are two moorings available upon request and subject to availability at weekly rates, together with use of slipway and trailer parking. Relax or do as much as you want; The Boathouse is just a lovely place to be!

Please note that the slipway and the ground floor of the property are used regularly by the Owner.

Ground Floor Only: The property is accessed via a paved patio area and consists of a bedroom with a double bed of ships bunk style, bathroom with overbath shower, WC, pedestal basin and wall heater, and a kitchen/breakfast bar/lounge with stunning views across the Percuil river to Place.
Exterior: Full width patio doors give access to the railed balcony and enclosed patio area with a table and chairs to enjoy the lovely river views.

St Mawes is one of the finest waterside villages in Cornwall. Situated overlooking an idyllic bay on the eastern side of the famous Falmouth Estuary, St Mawes has one of the mildest climates in Britain due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream. The sea is at the heart of the village and has helped to shape St Mawes from the little fishing village to the fashionable holiday destination that is so popular with visitors. A mecca for boating enthusiasts, St Mawes is a particularly popular sailing centre. Weekly club racing, village regattas and larger events are commonplace on the superb waters of the bay all through the summer.

St Mawes has so much to offer the visitor. St Mawes Castle was built by Henry VIII and is a splendid place to take in the views of the Carrick Roads. There are miles of coastal and countryside walks to take in and some idyllic beaches on which to relax and watch the world go by. The little Place Ferry takes visitors to explore St Anthony's Head or there are regular ferries to Falmouth. Being situated on the seafront, the village is also known for the restaurants and pubs that serve superb fish and shellfish dishes all year round.
