Eating Out in Veryan on The Roseland, Cornwall

Melinsey Mill01872 501049
Signposted off the main road, Melinsey Mill is a restored, working water mill and offers a unique opportunity to sample a magical atmosphere in idyllic surroundings.  Sit by the lake watching the fish and enjoy home cooked food, freshly baked scones or a proper cup of coffee. There is a delightful walk around the water and willow sculptures to catch you unawares.  The craft shop is a must for unusual, locally made quality products for presents to take home or just for yourself!

The New Inn - 01872 501362
The New Inn is a delightful little village pub with a good amount of character.  You will find no Michelin star cooking here, although you will find decent, honest pub grub at reasonable prices.  There is a good village atmosphere in the pub in the evenings.  There is a little beer garden to the rear of the pub which could be so much better and the place in general is in need of a little TLC.  The New Inn is a St Austell Brewery pub, so they are tied for their beer which means you are a little stuck for choice.

The Ship Inn, Portloe - 01872 501356
The delightful village of Portloe is well worth a visit and the Ship Inn is the only pub in the village.  Another good old fashioned village pub, it also has a pleasant garden across the road.  A limited menu featuring mainly pub grub, however you can get some fresh Portloe crab here.  Again a St Austell Brewery pub so limited choice of beer.

The Lugger Hotel, Portloe - 01872 501322
One of the Roseland's "seaside chic" hotels (and this one really is boutique!) offering first class service, food and prices!  It is a great spot overlooking the tiny little harbour at Portloe and the perfect place to indulge yourself in some Portloe crab!  We have not eaten here, but we have heard generally positive comments from our guests.

The Nare Hotel, Carne - 01872 501111
Another hotel marketing itself towards the luxury end of the market.  Overlooking Carne Beach, it certainly has an enviable position.  Lunch can be had in the Quarterdeck and in the evenings guests have the luxury of choosing to dine either in the Dining Room or in The Quarterdeck restaurant. The Dining Room offers a traditional table d'hote menu, which changes every evening. The Quarterdeck is a more relaxed a la carte menu. Both restaurants are open to non-residents, booking is recommended.
