There are plenty of sports and pastimes available locally, particularly if you are keen to get out on the water.
Sailing
If you are a keen racer, pay a visit to the St Mawes Sailing Club (01326 270686) above the Post Office & Chandlers on the harbour in St Mawes. The Club organise racing every Thursday evening and Sunday morning throughout the season and there are also Village Regattas through the summer months. The highlight of the season is Falmouth Weekwhich is organised by POFSA. There are always boats looking for crews for racing, so do pop in and ask around.
Junior Sail Training

Windsurfing
The Roseland is a superb place for windsurfing with clean winds available from almost any direction. With south westerlies, you can sail off Tavern Beach or even better for some flat water blasting in northerlies, Castle Beach where you can park in the grass car park. For wave heads, Pendower Beach works every now and then with easterlies, but beware of the current.
Surfing
If an Easterly wind is blowing, you may surf from Pendower beach. Otherwise drive to the North coast, where there are lifeguards at all the main resorts - Perranporth, Newquay, Porthtowan etc.

Fishing
You may fish off rocks using your own tackle, or read the blackboards on the St Mawes quays where there are fishing trips available. Do be aware that certain areas have been classified as Sea Bass nurseries so please observe the rules. The best fishing is had around the Manacles Reef or Gull Rock plus there are numerous wrecks in the area. You can also charter boats for deep sea fishing from

Take the kids crabbing off one of the quays around the Roseland! Local shops sell crabbing lines or nets and it is a superb way to keep the little ones amused! St Mawes and Portscatho are great spots when the tide is in.
