Our stay was over Christmas but not a single festive decoration was present, or in any of the cupboards. The cottage is fairly run down, with a broken electric plug in radiator in one of the bedrooms making it unusable. The location is very lovely in summer but in winter it is very dark, access to most places is muddy and slippery, not the fault of the owners. The cottage is old, floors are uneven and there are trip hazards. There is a large hole in the kitchen skirting which appears to be possibly an old rodent hole? Beds are very comfy and bedding clean and soft.
Had a great time in Cornwall. April Cottage was an amazing cottage, catered for every need and a great base for visiting Cornwalls attractions.
Having stayed in April Cottage previously, we knew what to expect, although there is some road noise due to location on main road into St Mawes, this visit seemed quieter, possibly due to expecting it, maybe it was a little quieter. As we have 3 dogs, the space is ideal and is actuially like a tardis with large rooms. Great communication and efficient in organising cleaning sanitising etc
Great little spot, we were there for a week as a family with our dog. Enjoyed the walk from St Just to St Mawes a few times, close to St Mawes and Porthscaco. Glad we read the reviews about the closeness to the road but it was fine. Kitchen is well equipped and beds are comfy.
This was the second time we have stayed at April Cottage. It is well equipped, the beds are comfortable and great for all types of guest, being dog and family friendly.
Beautiful cottage. We arrived and it was a chilly afternoon but the cottage was warm thanks to the cosy heater in the sitting room being put on for us. Super comfy beds with crisp white linen and soft pillows made for a great nights sleep. The kitchen is one of the best stocked Ive seen, everything anyone could need. The neighbours popped in and were lovely, really friendly. The only negative I found and its not anything the owners can be responsible for, was the traffic noise and proximity to a very busy road.
We loved staying in this cottage as its location was brilliant for exploring the whole of the Roseland Peninsula. Although it is located on the main road into St Mawes, the traffic was non-existent at night time and you just learned to ignore it at other times. April Cottage is brilliantly equipped, especially the kitchen, and the owners obviously have good taste. The beds were comfortable and the fact there is no light pollution means you sleep like a log! It is just a short walk down to St Just Church which must be one of the loveliest in England.
We are from Cornwall and returned to visit family as we do several time a year. We knew where the property was located and that it was on a busy road which wasn't a problem. Neither was having to park in the village car park a short way up the road. The cottage was clean and tidy with most things you could need and a very comfortable bed. Our biggest problem was the height of the ceilings and beams. My husband at 6ft 4ins tall spent a considerable time stooped over when downstairs and nearly knocked himself out on the entrance to the living room. This particular opening should have a warning above it as to the height which couldn't be more than 5ft 8ins. There is nothing in the site information to indicate the very low heights in some parts of the property. Obviously one knows that old beamed homes are likely to be lower than usual but this was more than would normally be expected. We wouldn't stay here again purely based on the physical discomfort of living with the ceiling heights.
Supremely comfortable beds and pillows, amazingly stocked kitchen with every conceivable utensil, new white goods, brand new bedding, electric shower large rooms and for a family 2 bathrooms made our stay more than comfortable. The only negative is April Cottages' unfortunate exact location. Whilst ideal for getting around the Roseland, it sits precisley on the main road in and out of St Mawes and suffers from very loud traffic noise. Whilst this was expected after reading the reviews, how could something so minor spoil a fantastic holiday in the best value cottage we have ever stayed in.
we had a lovelly holiday in this warm and homely cottage, everything was spotless, the bed comfortable as were the sofa and armchairs. comfort is very important and this cottage had it all. well equipped kitchen for those that cook (we only heated up) the info pack we got on booking was very helpful. all in all marks out of ten =ten
Overall the stay at April Cottage was good. Kitchen well equipped. Cottage warm and comfortable. Well located in area.
We haa family wedding in St Mawes. My wife had been asked to do the flowers. We had to have a cottage so she could work on the flowers and it had to be over Saturday night. Large bedrooms and two twins fitted the family perfectly. Plenty of room in the dining room and a perfect table for the arranging. 2 miles from the castle easy ride. Good parking just round the corner. good TV and a DVD player well appointed kitchen you do not need anything else. The only downside is there is not a pub serving food withing walking distance. if we were t go down that way again for a cottage I would book April cottage again.
Very enjoyable and comfortable stay. Cornwall is a special place for us as we lived here for 15 years.
We stayed in April cottage for a week in December. The cottage is old and full of charm. It is furnished nicely and has all modern amenities. It has surprising large bedrooms and a toilet upstairs which is a bonus. It is great for people with dogs as it has an enclosed rear yard. There is no parking at the house but the free car park is only across the road so no problem. The lounge is very cosy and even in the high of winter the house never felt cold. All in all very nice.
We rented April Cottage for a short stay as our daughter was graduating from University in Falmouth. We arrived very late on the Wednesday night to find the key exactly as instructed, which was a huge relief. On entering our first impressions of the cottage were, quite simply, delight. April Cottage was warm, comfortable and homely. Everything was easy to find and the beds were made - which was brilliant, especially after having traveled for so long. Facilities in the cottage are excellent. The kitchen is really well equipped with lovely crockery and so much more than the bare essentials you get at many holiday lets. The living room is a home from home with comfortable soft furnishings, TV and a really good selection of books. The bedrooms are also very comfortable indeed with really good mattresses on all the beds, so restful nights were had by all. The bathroom was downstairs and featured a good, powerful shower with plenty of hot water. A word of warning here, the bath is very slippy when wet and we only found the bath mat in the cupboard above the water tank after I took a bit of a tumble, so make sure it is in place before you enter! April Cottage was also spotlessly clean, with a cupboard full of soaps, cleaners and dishwasher tablets should you need them. As someone who has stayed in many holiday lets with my family over the years, it was really good not to have to stock up on such products or make a trip to the local supermarket for toilet rolls. All in all, we had a lovely stay at April Cottage. It is pretty as a picture Cornish and ideally situated for pretty much every thing. We would not hesitate to book again.
As a group of 18 year olds they were more than happy to allow us to have the cottage for a week. The whole cottage was of a brilliant standard and we hardly noticed the road outside. The updated bathroom is very good and is different to the photographs. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to stay in this part of Cornwall. St mawes is lovely and the best beach we found was portscatho a 5 minute drive from the cottage.
A quintessential English cottage. Bursting with character including wonky floors and low beams. Everything you could possibly need from a holiday home. Well appointed. Clean and comfy. . If it's a beach holiday you want then consider it is a 20 minute drive to a non estuary beach and the same distance to any shop. However for peace and quiet you can't beat it. St Just church is beautiful. Lots of varied dog walks from the cottage. It is hilly!
April Cottage was comfortable and very clean. Good position for exploring the Roseland. Gardens of Tebah and Lost Gardens of Helligan well worth a visit.
We selected April cottage mostly on location (for walking the Roseland Peninsula) and price. The details warned the cottage is right on the main St Mawes road, but apart from a bit of traffic noise this wasn't a problem. The parking across the road is really convenient compared to many cottages we looked at. From the website photos and price we thought April cottage might be 'compact' but on arrival were pleasantly surprised with the size of the rooms. Another factor in our choosing April Cottage was it being dog friendly. A word of warning: there is no door between the kitchen and dining room or to the stairs. So we had to be on our guard with our ever hungry Labrador. We found April Cottage to be very well equipped and comfortable. There were the usual issues with mobile signal (as with much of Cornwall) but the superfast broadband more than made up for that.
Excellent stay, the cottage provided everything we needed, very well equipped, warm and cosy too. The local information was very useful. Would recommend, thank you.
We found that our stay in April cottage was extremely comfortable, with an excellent kitchen and all the facilities we could need. The heating was very efficient, just right for a holiday in early January. The cottage is in a very good location for exploring most of Cornwall, and at this time of year we found all the car parks empty and the local people extremely friendly and welcoming.
We stayed for a last minute week at the end of September. My first pleasant surprise was the large last minute discount applied via the booking Web site. Followed by an email pack that included clear instructions for our arrival, discoint vouchers for the ferry, and a useful pdf of the local area. The house itself is appropriate for the money paid. It's a mixture of old and new furniture and fixtures. New comfy sofa and chairs in the lounge. dvds flat screen 32 inch TV and a dock for music playing, board games, a stocked book shelf. Modern appliances in the kitchen yet slightly tired utensils. But well stocked and clean. Small fridge was fine for 2 but would be a problem for a larger group especially as you have to do a large shop to get you through a few days because there aren't many shops close by. We took a dog, so the safe enclosed garden was a blessing because there are so many places in the area that aren't dog friendly (every village beach in cornwall!!!) that you need somewhere to leave him occasionally. The down stairs bathroom was perfect. A lot of money recently spent putting in a brand new bathroom. Also a small upstairs toilet. The bedrooms were quaint. Charming with uneven floors and old fashioned dimensions. Clean sheets but a slope on the main double bed made for a few readjustments each sleep. Not sure if it was floor related or poor mattress. The big issue is the road. It is the main route from st mawes. You will start to be disturbed by thundering lorries from 7am. This didn't concern us much but if that's an issue then think carefully. You don't hear a mouse squeak from 9pm to 7am. Parking over the road in a free car park. And a 5 minute walk to one of the most amazing little churches and estuary views is a big plus. And the dog can run free down there. It's also a great spot for a mile loop walk round the coast to st mawes and back. Overall great value. Great location. Hopefully a nice honest review. Enjoy.
Three of us stayed in April Cottage, we used it as a base to visit gardens and take walks near St Mawes. Very comfortable and cosy. Intend to book again next year.
We had a very pleasant week at April Cottage, the facilities were excellent, and the environment felt very homely and comfortable. Really appreciated the well-equipped kitchen (knives, chopping boards etc). One small though important issue - the lefthand bed (as facing the window) in the front twin room would benefit from a better mattress.
We live in Cornwall already but our Stay here was spot on, considering it being sandwiched between two other houses it still offers great privacy only gripe is that the upstairs hot water didn't work & sometimes the shower tripped the electricity - other than that we LOVED IT
Spacious and well equipped. Could have used a dishwasher. Lovely clean linen. Excellent location for exploring. Must have a car! Very quiet and secluded. Perfect for a short stay.
We loved the cottage, particularly the well equipped kitchen with plenty of china and cutlery for six people so we never ran ou of anything. We hope to visit again in the future.
April Cottage is in St.Just in Roseland which is a very beautiful area and very close to a number of beaches and St Mawes and not far from Turo (by the King Harry Ferry) The cottage itself was a very pleasant place to stay BUT let down rather badly by the bathroom which is in need of refurbishing the shower is only just adequate and the bath has some rust by the plug hole and where the banister is screwed to the wall because the screws used to fix it are to long they come through the wall and my granddaughter scratched herself on them. In spite these thing we had had a lovely week there we took our two dogs with us and there are plenty of walks close by especially St.Just Church and Bar
We throughly enjoyed our stay in April Cottage. This lovely cottage provided us with the perfect base to explore the Roseland Peninsula. The cottage was well equipped with everything you needed including WIFI, all though getting a mobile signal was a bit more tricky to get. When ever we met the people who lived in the village they were extremely friendly & they loved our dogs. Being able to take our three dogs was fantastic as they enjoyed the walks around the village & along the coastal path to St Mawes. The coastal path also had several places where the dogs could go down onto the beach to swim which they took full advantage of! We would thoroughly recommend a stay at this traditional cornish cottage especially if you have dogs.
The cottage was spotless and very well provided for. The main road was indeed the main road - we had rather under estimated the weight of traffic going to and from St Mawes - sad as St Just in Roseland remains utterly beautiful (off the main road!). There were one or two technical problems which we have passed on, hopefully to the benefit of future tenants.
We chose the cottage because it was a Sunday changeover to avoid traffic. Pros: Clean Pleasant living room Good walk down to church Cons: Fronts on to a road that traffic flies by so need be careful with children. Although not busy by any standards if you have windows open it's quite loud in the mornings. Rear bedroom had damp smell. Bathrooms very basic. Back 'garden' is really a basic backyard, and not a place you really want to sit. Barbecue covered in greasy mould.
An excellent cottage which the 4 children and two adults thoroughly enjoyed staying in. Being 6 foot 5 the cottage was referred to by us as the "Hobbit House" as the doorways and low beams meant me bending down when walking from room to room so perhaps a reference to that in the description would prewarn others that they should expect low beams. The lock on the back door was a bit of a problem as I think either the lock or the keys need replacing as some mornings I spent 10 minutes trying to unlock it by using various keys to get it to open. There are various cleaning products in the cupboard under the kitchen sink but a couple of spare light bulbs in there would be great. When we arrived the bulb in the light at the bottom of the stairs had blown and on our last morning the one in the upstairs toilet went as well. We all thoroughly enjoyed the stay at April Cottage, the location was excellent and we hope to come back soon.
A lovely old cottage with bags of character, in a nice location and great value for money. However the ceilings were almost comically low (lots of bashed foreheads), the beds very uncomfortable, and the parking very poor and too far from the house for convenience. Washing machine didn't work during our stay and paint and dirt fell onto the dining table when people walked in the room above, not very pleasant if you are eating. On the whole could be very nice with a bit of renovation, but at the price it's hard to beat, the location was very good, the parking was a major problem unloading for three kids and 4 adults.. Comfy sitting room and decent patio for a BBQ, nice big bathroom but a bath that can only be filled halfway! A VERY mixed bag
April cottage was lovely, cleaning staff were brilliant, a little out of the way. Only thing was mouldy curtains on back door and kitchen and also damp in one kitchen cupboard. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay though thank you.
