We had a fabulous time at Cove Cottage, The view especially from the bedroom window was beautiful and I even left the curtains open at night to wake up to the wonderful sunrise. Very peaceful location, it was fabulous having the downstairs room with bathroom (although the extractor was very loud ) as well as an upstairs bathroom for the other two bedrooms,Fabulous walks along the south west coast path going in both directions directly from the front door. I would recommend in these present times to be well stocked up as there are no shops in the harbour and driving in an out is single track for about half a mile each direction. No evening meals at the Lugger hotel but it is open for lunch and afternoon tea. We found that it was always a little touch and go with the parking as there was not always any spaces near the cottage and therefore parking was in the car park about 10 minutes walk away. We loved our trip to Portloe and wouldn't hesitate to book again.
On arrival it was very welcoming and super clean. Excellent location with great views over the cove. Brought everything with us for obvious reasons, however the village shop at Veryans was well stocked and very COVID secure. The caretakers were excellent, bringing the starter set of logs, kindling, paper and even matches as soon as requested. And for movie buffs, we discovered that some of the scenes from the Richard Curtis film About Time were shot within a few metres of the cottage. Overall it was just lovely, highly recommended, many thanks!
Location very good, however cottage felt damp in lower bedroom and couldnt find instructions regarding heating or how to get tv stations, but overall an enjoyable week.
I have written in the Guest Book about how lovely Portloe is - a really magical village that I hope stays a best kept secret ! Cove Cottage was also delightful - good location with harbour views from some windows, a characterful house and well equipped. As some of the views were so special it was a shame that the windows were so dirty. I mentioned it to the owner as he rang on another matter and he said it was the salt from the sea which accumulates quickly (?) Also the 2nd higher patio, though a glorious place to sit, would have benefited from some cutting back - we got stung by nettles up there and some bush trimming would have provided a tiny bit of garden and increased the sense of space. That said, the cottage was fine - there were 6 of us + 2 medium sized dogs but the cottage had a Tardis like ability to fit us all in very comfortably and we all enjoyed our stay there very much. Fell in love with the village and will definitely return some time.
We had a lovely week at Cove cottage. The beds were super comfortable and the homemade treats provided for us and our dog made us feel at home straight away. We loved sitting on the upper deck in the evening enjoying a glass of wine. We would love to return so I think that says it all.
Gorgeous cottage in stunning location. Loved all the outdoor areas too - the decking with views etc View from main bedroom is lovely
A very pretty, clean and comfortable cottage with plenty of character and stocked with everything you need for an enjoyable weeks stay. Cove Cottage is in a perfect setting to watch activities in the harbour including the fishing boats leaving early and returning with their catch in the morning and is bathed in the sun all day. The cottage feels light and airy and the WiFi and Smart TV worked fine. We enjoyed the views from the coastal path behind the house and the strangest moment must have been coming across the Merchantmen singing traditional Cornish sea shanties in a Portloe cave! We were blessed with a week of fantastic weather and enjoyed bodyboarding and rock-pooling on the nearby sandy beaches of Carne, Caerhays and Portholland. St-Just-in-Roseland church with its holy well and St Anthonys Head are worth exploring on the Roseland Peninsula, with views across the Fal Estuary to the yachts and bigger ships. Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum in St Austell was a fascinating morning out, giving an insight into the history of the area and in a pleasant, quiet setting. We would recommend the Cornish Food Box Company who supplied locally sourced meat, fish, fruit, veg and dairy to our door, and backed up supplies from local shops in Veryan and Tregony. Outside cafes at the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Wheal Martyn made lunches easy to arrange. Thank you to the owners and caretakers of Cove Cottage for providing us with an extremely clean and safe base from which to explore and enjoy Portloe and the Roseland area.
We were fortunate enough to visit Cove Cottage before the lockdown. What a lovely cosy cottage in a fantastic location! It was beautifully furnished and well equipped, and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The owners had left some little bags of handmade goodies for us, which were very much appreciated. The owners were so nice, they couldn't have been more helpful. We asked if we could bring someone else with us at short notice, and they readily agreed. They also phoned to say we could check out later on the last day if we wanted to. So thoughtful. The village itself is a great place to stay. Everyone we met was very friendly - highly recommend the Ship Inn, owners really nice and the food was great, really good value too. A very enjoyable holiday; highly recommend Cove Cottage and Portloe.
Lovely clean and cosy cottage, I loved listening to the sea and the waves. The cottage was warm and. We were well provided or with towels kitchen stuff and a small contained patio area for the dogs. There was a hotel over the road for food which was nice but very expensive and a small pub at the end of the road which was average. For a few days r and r we had a lovely time but it was very quiet. The surrounding beaches are sandy and dog friendly. Parking was a carpark up the hill and the nearest shop was around 3 miles away. The milk and biscuits were very welcome on arrival I cannot fault this pretty little cottage and would return in the warmer weather. But if its entertainment and local food you require be prepared to travel as it is tucked away in a very tiny but beautiful part of Cornwall. ps There is wifi but the TV is a smart Tv so unless you are great at tech or under 40 be prepared to be befuddled. Confused or just not watch tv for the week.
Great week at Cove Cottage - clean, comfortable and peaceful. We love being able to take our dog and this year we managed to buy some fish off the local fisherman which was delicious. A truly special place.
We enjoyed a two week stay in this lovely cottage in Portloe. The location is exceptional and the cottage offers all you need for a family of four. The Lugger Inn next door serves spectacular food and the costal path is right on your door step. We can highly recommend this cottage and would be happy to return.
We spent the last two weeks of June at Cove Cottage at Portloe - what a wonderful place and the Cottage was perfect for us. Three of us one week and six the second week, quite comfortable and well appointed. Great views over the harbour, and easy access to the Coastal Path. The managers Alan and Melanie were accessible, responded to us promptly, and gave us good tips as to what to do and where to eat in the area. We were lucky enough to be in Portloe when it was Open Gardens - 10 of the villages houses opened their gardens for public viewing - despite the rain it was one of the highlights of the fortnight. Dinner at the Ship Inn was great, as was the Lugger (although considerably more expensive). We were able to park on the harbour ramp most days, and the other days used the public car park at the top of the village. A perfect place to stay in a perfect Cornish village - thoroughly recommended!! Tim and Linda Adelaide
Beautiful sea views and right on the cliff path for glorious walks with the dog Cottage very well equipped with comfortable beds and lovely open fireplace
We like everything about staying at Cove Cottage, just suits us perfectly. PS We found it hard to throw the recycling in with the rubbish. There are companies that deal with it for you.
We spent a wonderful week at cove cottage with my grown up sons their partners and 2 dogs. Everyone enjoyed the stunning position and recharged some well worn batteries. For me the view from my bedroom window of the ever changing sea colours, and the sound of the waves on the rocks was truly enchanting. The only downside was we had to leave.
This is the 3rd time staying at cove cottage and we love it. It was made all the more better for redecoration and update of the upstairs bathroom. Ideal with dogs as straight onto coastal path. We will be back
Everything about this cottage was wonderful from the initial booking to the stay. The location was fantastic and the cottage was perfect, cosy and very well equipped.
We really enjoyed our stay in Cove cottage, which was very well positioned and kitted out. We would definitely consider renting it out again!
Had a great holiday at Cove cottage. Its location is amazing and the views are stunning . The Cottage is very well equipped and it has a very cosy ambience. The patio could do with some attention but we enjoyed many bbq's and meals al fresco. A very enjoyable family holiday. There were 6 of us and plenty of space for us all.
Unfortunately on the occasion I stayed in the cottage there was no WiFi and no land looking ne and not TV.... reading the. Is it or book it looks like this is not the first time this has happened to customers... The weather was awful so we had days out n the wet and really missed snuggling up in the cottage in the evening watching a good film.. Communication around getting the fault fixed was not good. Also had a handy,an turn up to fix a fan in the bathroom whilst we were there...which we didnt mind but it just seemed like we picked the wrong week to be there. We came home early and no ne seemed to be aware of this as the calls we were promised as follow up we never received This cottage is not just a base its a comfy pretty well kept place to be normally....
Nice cottage. But the WiFi didnt work for more than half the the holiday. And the tv was WiFi too . So no tv and we have two young boys!
Lovely cottage with harbour views, and is in the sun from morning to evening! Neighbours who work in the Lugger were great too. Thoroughly recommend.
We really enjoyed our week in Cove Cottage. The location is superb, right by the harbour in the small village of Portloe. It is out of the front door and side gate and you are on the South West coastal path. You can walk east or west and you'll have magnificent views. As a couple we were very comfortable, but I did think that three couples would think that one couple was getting the best bedroom. As a family you have to be aware that two bedrooms are upstairs and one is on the lower ground floor. We appreciated the shortbread and a very nice bottle of wine that welcomed us. As the brochure tells you be aware that you can not always get parked outside the cottage but may have to use the village car park. It is a bit of a walk but you can enjoy the sea views as you go. There was only one thing that disappointed and that was the cleanliness of the windows. When we returned on the last evening there was something different, we could see out of the windows and really enjoy the view. I know that in that location the windows would get dirty but the poor view was disappointing.
beautiful village in a stunning position ideal for coastal running and leisurely walks with our dogs . second time we have been to cove cottage and we loved it as much as the first, Perhaps its getting ready for some re decoration inside and out starting to look a little tired and could do with a makeover in upstairs bathroom never the less a fantastic stay
Cove Cottage is in a fabulous location, right on the cliff path as well as being just a step away from a lovely local pub as well as opposite a smart hotel. Its warm and comfortable with excellent facilities. Weve stayed three times we love it so much.
Totally fabulous! What a great place to spend Christmas! Lovely walks, an open fire and The sound of waves crashing against the rocks - bliss! We will definitely be back.
We had a lovely stay in Cove Cottage! It was cosy and comfortable, with a beautiful view of the harbour slipway from the window next to the warm fire, and the double bedroom upstairs. Overall, would highly recommend a stay in Cove Cottage.
Really cosy cottage. Bed was amazing so comfortable. Good quality bed linen and towels. The only thing was the carpet/rug in lounge. A hazard. We turned it around. It was curling up and fraying. The caretaker phoned to check if we were warm enough and we did tell him. It was mentioned previously in visitors book. Needs a new one.
This cottage is in an amazing location and is very comfortably furnished. The customer service provided by Cornwall's Cottages was excellent throughout and I would not hesitate to recommend the property.
With 11 Grandchildren all living within 5 minutes for us this was a lovely peaceful place to be for a few days.We only live half an hour away from the property but we could have been in the North of Scotland as the change in surroundings was so interesting.
The most perfect cottage to stay in. Home from home. A little out the way of everywhere but we quite liked that! Definitely encourage people to chose Cove Cottage
Lovely cosy cottage with a lovely outlook over the slipway. Great location for the coastal path and central for all nearby St Maws or Mevagessy. Our puppy also enjoyed the cottage and location.
Cove Cottage is a beautiful, spacious and cosy place to spend a holiday in Cornwall. It's clean, has everything you need, a well equipped kitchen, and is located directly above the little fishing harbour of Portloe. We enjoyed it very much, walks on the coastline as well as cosy evenings next to the fireplace.
The Cover Cottage is a very well designed house with an excellent location on a hill with a great panorama to the Atlantic. All rooms of the house have a very good ambiente, in addition maritime artworks. A special highlight of te living room is the fireplace. We will recommened the Cove Cottage to others. Marion from Berlin
We had a wonderful few days in the very comfortable and well equipped Cove cottage. The location was amazing and the weather was good!
We had a wonderful stay at Cove Cottage.. It's light & airy, a well fitted kitchen & comfortable beds with two lovely outside spaces for eating which we were able to use (despite the Cornish weather!). The best thing is the location, right on the Harbour with beautiful & dramatic walks along the coast path in both directions... Local pub very welcoming & fabulous meal at The Lugger hotel next door... All perfect for a special birthday weekend away..
exellent position very spacious in abeautiful harbour location no negatives really perhaps main bathroom could do with a revamp and possibly some redecorating but we were made to feel really welcome with wine hot cross buns and a nice card. Small touches like this make a huge difference all in all perfect holiday perfect cottage
Great see views and costal walks. The cottage was cosy and clean a real treat. We enjoyed our time in the village and will come again.
This is a beautiful cottage in a stunning location, overlooking the small slipway/harbour. The coast path passes right outside the door and a pub and hotel are a very short walk away.
A lovely warm and cozy cottage with stunning views of the sea. Would definitely stay here again. Xxx
We enjoyed our week with the two small dogs in Cove Cottage, comfortable, stylish and just a few feet from the cliffs, harbour and The Lugger Hotel. Portloe itself lacked amenities such as a village shop and there was only intermittent mobile 'phone and TV reception. A small omission was that no toilet roll was provided in the bathroom. Also there was no large towel rail for the bath towels - there was a small heated towel rail and hook behind the door. The cottage was very close to the upmarket Lugger Hotel which served expensive but value-for-money food. We found it a good base for touring this part of Cornwall - if you don't mind the single-track roads.
Great cottage only complaint was the smart TV which ment you could only watch catch up tv apart from BBC I player
I chose Cove Cottage from the site based on the photos and location. I was delighted with my choice on arrival. The communication beforehand and arrival instructions were clear and easy to follow. The cottage is gorgeous, nicely appointed with lots of pretty features. Parking was fine. I couldn't park outside everyday but was able to park outside the church at the top of the road. The cottage is near the slipway so the sound of the water was so nice to fall asleep to. Lovely view from the bedroom window. There is a raised deck area which was really pleasant to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. I stayed with my dog. The outside area was gated, making it into a perfect enclosed space. I would definitely recommend Cove Cottage and will book again for next year.
We wanted a really relaxing holiday in lovely surroundings and that is exactly what we got. The cottage is very homely and cosy, and all very comfortable, the main bedroom had the lovely view of the harbour to wake up to through a small window, and we could here the sea at nightime with the window open. Everything worked very well, especially the dishwasher! The only slight downside was that the rear patio is also access to the neighbouring properties, and as we had our dog with us, we had to make sure both gates were closed, but there were very few people using the right of way to the other couple of houses adjacent, and they were all very friendly and helpful. Lovely cottage and location with very friendly locals and other holiday makers. Would certainly return thankyou.
