Hideaway occupies the ground floor of the Owner’s house, yet it is completely self contained with its own entrance from the driveway. Once on the lower level, the view that will greet you is nothing less than astonishing. Occupying a grandstand position overlooking the bay, this apartment is a magical place to spend a holiday. This quiet corner of St Mawes is within a three - four minute walk of the harbour (a little longer back up the hill) with its pubs and restaurants, but is completely separated from the hustle and bustle of the village. It is no wonder that this part of St Mawes has some of the most sought after properties in the South West of England.

The apartment itself is designed to make the most of the views. The living room has a superb triple sliding door which opens onto the terrace. The kitchen is compact but well equipped. The master bedroom also has a huge sliding door so you can lie in bed and take in the lovely sea views! The twin bedroom also has great views. There is also a separate WC. There are 14 steps down on the outside with a handrail to reach the apartment. At the top of the steps is the boat house with the use of the utility room with washing machine and tumble drier and a large shower which is really handy after a day at the beach!

Ground Floor Only: Living room with comfortable sofas and sea views, through to kitchen. Master double bedroom with 5' double bed and sliding doors to patio terrace. En-suite bathroom with a bath and separate shower cubicle. Twin bedroom with an en-suite shower room. Upper level, next to Boat House : Utility room with small washing kitchen and large shower cubicle.
Exterior: Patio terrace with a lovely table, chairs and a couple of sun loungers & parasol. There is a BBQ for which you will need to provide your own charcoal.

Facilities & Services
Heating is via oil fired underfloor heating, with a radiator and gas effect wood burner in the sitting room. The kitchen has a range of modern equipment. There is an electric oven and hob, a microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge / freezer and dishwasher. There is a separate utility area with a washing machine & tumble dryer. The sitting room area has a flatscreen digital TV & DVD player, CD & Bose Soundlink bluetooth speaker. There is WiFi available at the property. There is an iron & ironing board.

Electricity, heating, bed linen & towels are all included but you will need to provide your own beach towels. Regrettably no smoking or dogs are allowed. Parking facilities are available for up to 2 vehicles on a shared drive. There is a cot & high chair available.

This review is easy to write and can be brief. This property was excellent in every way for 2 to 4 people. The views are stunning and the whole experience memorable. Easy short walk to St Mawes. Not cheap but worth it.

Louise O'Leary

Hideaway was everything you could wish for in a holiday escape. Spotlessly clean, well equipped and in a fabulous location. The views were to die for. Nigel & Gail were friendly & available if needed. Can not recommend highly enough

Stephen Moore

The best holiday rental we have ever had! Spacious comfortable rooms , cosy and warm with underfloor heating. The apartment was immaculately clean and very well equipped. The view of the river and sea from all rooms was stunning. There was a lovely big terrace as well an immaculate garden overlooking the sea. The owners were friendly and helpful.

Deborah Brownlee

We were delighted with everything about our stay in Hideaway. Gail and Nigel were friendly and welcoming without ever intruding. The apartment was spotlessly clean, warm and very well equipped and great thought had clearly gone into catering for visitor needs. The views from inside and on the terrace are spectacular and the location is ideal, good driveway parking only a five minute walk into the village centre.

We booked with short notice, hoping for a few days relaxation in anticipation of another covid lockdown and that’s what we got. This is the most wonderful apartment, even better than the photos show. The views take your breath away as soon as you step in the door, no matter what the Cornish weather is doing. Everything was clean and comfortable, showers excellent, kitchen small but fully stocked with plenty of storage. Having parking in St Mawes is a bonus and it’s only a short walk to the centre for shops, pubs, etc. We loved it so much that we plan to go back soon. Many thanks Gail and Nigel.

Kris Webb

We have been regular visitors for many years and enjoy the exceptional views, comfort and convenience of Hideaway. Gail & Nigel work so hard to make the gardens attractive and keep the property fresh. Sadly we won’t be returning in 2022 as our usual dates were snapped up months ago and prices have shot up. Might be the end of an era. K&C

Supriya Taneja

Perfect location, perfect views, generous and kind hosts and to top it all the most perfect weather for the entirety of the week we were there. This is our third time at St Mawes, but our first at Hideaway, so we have some catching up to do. We’ll be back - most certainly.

Daren Grout

We stayed in the Hideaway for a week in August. We were blown away by this apartment, fantastic views to wake up to each morning. Very comfortable through out, and very well equipped. Kitchen even had facilities to be able to make a cake… even though we didn’t attempt it! Short walk down to St Mawes via a pathway at the back of the apartment, a bit hilly on the way back up,but still a lovely walk! Gail and Nigel were very welcoming and there if you needed any help. Will be booking again in the future. Thank you Gail and Nigel for our stay at your beautiful apartment.. just amazing!!

Ann Fox

What a treat. We had a wonderful holiday in this lovely apartment with the most amazing views. We had the most amazing hot summer weather which made our stay even better, sitting out on the well furnished sunny terrace every day after a walk or trip out enjoying a drink or two! The owners of the apartment live upstairs and are just the nicest couple, our every need attended to but never obtrusive. Would we return? Most definitely.

Adrian Kellett

The self contained apartment is situated on a private road in a quiet location above St Mawes, with an amazing view from the balcony across the bay & river estuary. Property is scrupulously clean and well equipped. The owners, who live above the apartment, are friendly & welcoming, happy to share local knowledge if you need any information. This was our second stay here & we are planning to return in the future,

Clive Burlton

Hideaway is a delightful property. Very comfortable, warm and well-equipped. The views from the lounge, bedrooms and terrace are extraordinary. Nice to meet Gail and Nigel too... The weather wasn't the kindest during our stay, but that didn't affect us from thoroughly enjoying St Mawes and surrounds once again. Many thanks...

Annette Walden

We have stayed at Hideaway several times and we have booked for next year. Hideaway is well cared for and absolutely spotless. The view is perfection, always telling a different story. The nearby amenities caters for couples, friends getting together and families particularly with children five plus (in my opinion). We had a wonderful holiday and felt recharged after what has been a grim year.

Tony Huband

The Hideaway is a perfect location for soaking up the beauty and tranquility of St. Mawes. Everything you need is provided, including one of the best coastal views of Cornwall through the glazed sliding doors in both the lounge and bedroom.

An extremely comfortable apartment, with all the features one needs for a relaxing break. Stunning views from the lounge and bedroom. Excellent parking and facilities. Easy walks into St Mawes and beyond.

Hideaway has been decorated tastefully, the layout is perfect, everything has been thought through. The views are heavenly. The location is a 5 minute walk to the beach, so well located - quiet but central. The hosts are generous and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return in the future.

Patricia Pope

Another wonderful and restful week at Hideaway, cannot wait to go back at the end of the year, thank you Gail & Nigel.

Thomas Maddock

I booked Hideaway as a special treat for my mum and dad. My mum has mobility issues and the owners (and Cornwalls Cottages) could not have been more helpful, both before I made the booking and during my parents’ stay, in terms of giving information about access and helping with where to park in St Mawe’s. Mum and dad said it was an exceptional property and they had an amazing time.

Andrew Witt

Incredible views in a fantastic location. All the amenities were covered, it was very clean and comfortable. The owners were very nice and helpful. Definitely on our coming back list.

Patricia Pope

We have been going to Cornwall for years, and this is one of the best places we have stayed at. Beautiful location with wonderful views, very comfortable and well equipped apartment, owners lovely very helpful but not intrusive. Looking forward to going back next year.

Owners present a wonderful place to stay. Glorious position with all the amenities of St Mawes close at hand.

Kris Webb

Comfortable retreat with amazing views. Watching life on the sea is wonderful come rain or shine. Well equipped if you want to cook a meal but lots of choices if you want to eat out. I’d rather keep Hideaway a secret to be honest!

The location could not be better: best sea view from all great windows, a lot of space (rooms) for 4 people and two excellent bathrooms (shower!). Gail and Nigel were very kind and helped immediately if it was necessary. We recommend this cottage unlimited! Thanks for great holidays in Cornwall!

Annette Walden

Gail and Nigel are extremely friendly, and considerate to their guests, but respectful of their guests privacy. Hideaway has a view that always makes you catch your breath. Hideaway is equipped as well as our home. Our unfulfilled dream was to have somewhere to escape to in Cornwall, however, for two weeks at Hideaway we lived our dream.

David Busby

Our 2nd visit to Hideaway, so peaceful and relaxing, and the accommodation is second to none! And, well the views!!! Overall brilliant.

Kris Webb

Wonderful views. Clean and comfortable. Convenient for shops and ferry services, nice to leave the car at Hideaway and enjoy the sea.

Christiane Loesch

We have enjoyed a lovely and relaxing stay with friends at Hideaway. Gail and Nigel have been very helpful and are wonderful hosts. We definately will come back soon!

Maxine Jones

This was our 2nd stay at Hideaway & it was as amazing as we remembered. Everything you could possibly need is provided & We instantly feel at home. It is such a relaxing place to stay but within easy walking distance of the village. We will definitely stay again.

Trudi Archer

Would have no hesitation in recommending Hideaway. Will hopefully be staying again next year. The owners Nigel and Gail could not be more helpful and the property is wonderful, fabulous views and great terrace to BBQ . We visit Cornwall most years and rate this the best so far. St Mawes is a fabulous place and the locals made us feel so welcome everywhere we went. 10/10 in terms of rating.

Lee Truman

We stayed for a week in this beautifully maintained and comfortable property. One of the best equipped and furnished properties we’ve ever stayed in. Everything was top notch quality and made our stay so comfortable. Gail and Nigel were friendly, helpful, on hand if you needed, but discreet. The view from every room was stunning, even on an overcast day. The garden was beautiful, and from the terrace you have a wonderful view of it. A handy gate in the garden opens onto a walkway which takes you to the centre of St Mawes in about 5 minutes, an easy walk down, but a bit steeper on the way up! Perfect location for walks, or catching the little ferries to Falmouth, Trelissick, or Place. We forgot to write in the visitors book before we left, but to sum up, it was a fabulous holiday, in a stunning house. Many thanks to Gail and Nigel for being so welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended.

Peter Plested

Hideaway provides a wonderful accomadation with fantastic views across to Falmouth, facilities good, comfortable bed and good shower with a bath as an option. Pleasant outside patio area with access to a barbecue.

Kevin Oxley

Stunning views from a fabulous property in an exclusive location .... and the weather was good - couldn’t want more.

Noel Casey

This is a beautifully appointed ground floor flat with direct access to wide garden and patio terrace with a stunning water views. V clean and well kept - the bathrooms are lovely. Also spacious. St Mawes in winter is v peaceful, don't know what summer is like. The owners, who live on the floor above, were away, so our interaction was brief, but they seemed very nice. Would definitely go again. The only weird thing was the gas fire in the lounge - when we put it on, it gave off an odd fuel smell - maybe because it hasn't been used for a while.

David Matthews

Wonderful accommodation in a beautiful position. The owners were friendly and helpful. Would certainly return.

Patricia Mullins

Gail was an excellent communicator and gave detailed instructions on how to find the property and gain access, they were away for the weekend. What a spectacular view from the bedroom and lounge/dining room with the water in front of you. A spacious bedroom with a very comfortable bed, and the ensuite was beautifully designed. The kitchen was a dream and everything that you needed for cooking was there. My husband and I loved our stay here and would highly recommend this accommodation to everyone.

Excellent place to stay, superb views, parking, and a home from home atmosphere . We will return again.

Martin McGinley

A very nice property with superb views from both sitting and bedrooms. Well equipped and comfortable. Peace, perfect peace is all yours at Hideaway.

Maxine Jones

We had the most amazing 2 weeks at Hideaway. From start to finish everything was perfect. Gail & Nigel have created a beautiful holiday home with every home comfort thought of. The view is spectacular & we had such a relaxing time sitting on the terrace watching the boats coming & going. St Mawes is a lovely place with plenty of places to eat & drink, also the ferry to Falmouth is a must do. We have already booked again for next year & cant wait to return.

Elizabeth Moody

Short review says it all. Excellent accommodation, high enough up for the wonderful view, yet only a 5 minute walk down into the town. Apartment has everything you need for a comfortable stay, owners live above, friendly and helpful.

Simply a lovely place to stay in St Mawes, walking distance to village centre. Comfortable accommodation with a magnificent view.

Allan Grant

The Hideaway came highly recommended & was richly deserved. The views from the property were amazing. It was spacious, warm & comfortable. Gail & Nigel were very welcoming & Nigel came to the rescue when we had car problems. An excellent stay that we will recommend to friends.

Victor Puddephat

An ideal spot for exploring the Roseland Penninsular. Very welcoming and helpful owners. An outstanding view from the Hideway's terrace.

Amy Woodget

Everything and more provided by the very friendly and helpful owners Gail and Nigel. Amazing views too.

Jeremy Nixey

Our weekend in Mid February was the coldest of the year in the UK yet Gail and Nigel gave us the warmest of welcomes and ensured that their oh so comfortable apartment was tropically warm. We would have been content to enjoy the panoramic views over St Mawes and the Falmouth estuary and Helford river coastline without even going outside. We did of course and found Trellisk and Trebah gardens three months ahead of the UK with camellias and daffs in full flower and Rhododendrons beginning to open. A perfect weekend.

A beautiful location on the hill ensuring fabulous views from every room. The clever design means you feel secluded but the lovely, friendly owners are not far away if you need them. Just a short walk into town it provided the best of both worlds being able to walk to the pub, or enjoy staying at the house taking in the amazing view- would definitely stay again!

Andrew Beazer

Fantastic stay. Lovely accommodation, super hosts and views impossible to beat. Can't wait to return!

Richard Waters

A lovely location and a very nice house with an exceptional view. The owners of the property were very friendly and could not be more helpful. We have stayed a lot of places in Cornwall and this is the best house we have ever had. Highly recommended.

Kay Preston-Wilkes

We have stayed at Hideaway twice and have already booked our stay for next year. The owners, who live on site, are friendly and helpful. The property is faultless and the view is to die for. We have been lucky with the weather for the time of year but even when it rained a couple of times the place is so comfortable it is actually nice to have an excuse, if one is needed, to lounge on the sofa and watch the clouds, read a book or play a game. If you are into cooking on holiday then the kitchen is better stocked than any holiday cottage I have ever stayed in - you could take on any "bake-off" challenge or cook a full Sunday roast if the fancy took you. When the sun shines you have a huge terrace with sun loungers and a barbecue. The beach is a few minutes walk away.

Graham Whitehorn

We have just returned from a brilliant stay at the Hideaway. The views are absolutely wonderful as is the accommodation. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners. Everything you need is here for you. We will definitely return .

Kris Webb

Wonderful location. Views to dream about all winter. Beautiful grounds and safe parking. Gail & Nigel so helpful. Everything you need for a holiday on your doorstep. Victim of its own success, very limited availability so book early.

Alison Knight

It would be nice if the lawn area in front of the patio terrace is available to use during our stay given we had such lovely weather. The accommodation was of an exceptional standard including the cleanliness of the apartment

Adam Arnold

Loved it! Had a great stay and very child friendly being on one level. The views over the sea are spectacular. The Hideaway felt very homely and we would definately stay again!

Helena Evans

We enjoyed returning to St Mawes this year. We were delighted with Hideaway. the location is second to none- and the accommodation did not disappoint. It was lovely to wake up to a fantastic sea view! The owners were very friendly and did their utmost to accommodate our needs. The apartment was extremely well equipped with everything we could possible need for a self catering holiday.

Jean Francis

Just as superb as the photos on the website show. To wake up to those views is just amazing. The owners have thought of everything you could possibly need. The quality of fitments, furnishings etc is just first class. To sit out on the terrace and look out to St Anthony Head is probably the best view of any property I have seen anywhere, it was like being in a dream. Loved every minute of the stay.

Greg Smith

We have holidayed in Cornwall several times but this is the best accommodation and location we have experienced. Superb sea views from large windows and within easy reach of St Mawes centre. Even though the weather was unkind, we enjoyed the the comfort and leisure afforded by this luxury apartment and will certainly plan to go again.

Hugh Macdonald

We have stayed in several holiday homes, but this was special. Gail and Nigel have paid such attention to detail. There was nothing that we needed that had not been provided. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the views from inside and out were wonderful and very hard to leave. Thank you.

Lesley Shaw

I hesitate to review this apartment, I'd like to keep it a secret for myself! Everything about it is superb: the owners are helpful and friendly without being intrusive and the location is second to none. We will most certainly be back, I hope many times

Lamorna Riches

From beginning to end we had no complaints We were greeted by the hosts as soon as we arrived and they were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The views from our windows were spectacular. The accommodation was spotlessly clean. The kitchen was small but adequate. TV in every room. Nothing was lacking. We will certainly want to go again should the opportunity arise

Peter Plested

Excellent accommodation with superb sea views made this a very relaxing break, apartment just a short walk from the quay. I would be happy to recommend.

Lovely apartment with wonderful views and helpful owners. All in all an excellent place to stay. Have been visiting St Mawes on and off over many years and this is perhaps the nicest property we have rented.

Terry Crumb

We could not fault Hideaway,. The lovely modern accommodation , beautiful views, really clean. The property is well located for the centre of the town. We didn't want to leave. .

David Busby

Excellent holiday, will be back!! Such a beautiful location, and the accommodation is second to none. Very nice being able to walk so easily to St.mawes!

Alena Cliss

Views views views! Hideaway is perfectly located a 2 minute walk from the shops, immaculately presented and probably the best views in St Mawes. We spent a very stormy week blissfully watching the view from the warmth and safety of the apartment. The attention to detail is breathtaking. Everything you could possibly wish for. Thank you for a lovely week

An absolutely beautiful place to stay. We had all types of weather and weren't disappointed one bit. There's not one negative about the accommodation, and the owners were really welcoming and kind. Look forward to the next time.

Excellent accommodation, renovated to a very high standard, with fantastic views. Our young children (aged 4 and 21 months) loved the rooms, views, terrace and use of the garden. The owners were also very friendly and welcoming on the few occasions we saw them.

J Pullicino

A home from home in a beautiful location, so beautifully furnished and equipped with brilliant showers. Our host was wonderful giving us suggestions of where to eat and what to see. We will return very soon I hope

Kay Preston-wilkes

We have stayed in a number of cottages in St Mawes and this is by far the best...excellent in everyway.

Roger Summers

Hideaway is in a prime location with lovely views across the estuary. The owners are always available to provide information about the area while not being intrusive This was our second visit and hope to return.

Kathryn Craig

Hideaway is the most wonderful place to stay, stunning views, elegant, comfortable and just a short walk from the harbour. A very special house. We hope to return. The Craig Family

Nigel and Gail have an amazing house, with the most beautiful views. They are a lovely couple who couldnt do enough for you. We had a brilliant week, with lots of walking in the surrounding areas. We will definitely return.

We had a glorious holiday here (our second time). It is such a delightful place and so relaxing to look out over the bay. Can't recommend highly enough!

We loved Hideaway. The position overlooking St Mawes Bay was spectacular. The garden was beautiful and immaculate. The apartment was hugely well equipped and extremely comfortable. Attention to detail was impressive. JJ Cheltenham

We stayed at Hideaway for a week in early June. A fabulously located cottage with a stunning view from the lounge and bedrooms. Even if the weather is poor, you can enjoy looking out from inside the cosy lounge. Most days, we were lucky enough to be able to sit out on the spacious and sunny terrace. The cottage is really well equipped with crockery, cooking utencils etc. The bed was really comfortable and the shower was good which is always a bonus. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to our friends.

We loved staying at the Hideway cottage. I will like to rate this cottage beyond excellent. I would love to re visit the cottage with family and friends in the near future. Nigel & Gail are were very polite and helpful. The view from the cottage is just amazing. The fireplace in the cottage and the light effects made our evenings memorable, we enjoyed all our meals. We didn't feel like going to the restaurants. A big Well Done! to Nigel and Gail. Look forward to visiting again :)

Hideaway is a perfect place to stay - with fab views! The accommodation is excellent and Gail & Nigel have given much thought to making your stay very comfortable. St Mawes is a great location - we did some lovely walks from the doorstep!

Kiyan Razmarya

Very friendly and understanding land loard Super clean super beautiful super everything's we appreciate every single min and enjoyed it best of wish and kind regaurd for land loards and your company Kind regurdes

The accommodation is located in the ideal place in St Mawes, 4 minutes walk from the centre but sufficiently far to be quite and to have an EXCELLENT view. It has been refitted very recently and is in perfect condition. To top it all the owners are totally charming and will be able to give you some guidance on where to visit and eat. It makes for a pretty perfect combination.

Hideaway was a fantastic place to stay - very lovely and comfortable accommodation with some of the best views in Cornwall. What more could you ask for! The owners were very friendly and helpful. This was our third visit to St Mawes and was the nicest place we have stayed in so far. 10 out of 10.

Very little to add to other comments. Accommodation of a very high standard. Fabulous view across to Falmouth. Convenient distance into village. Friendly owners. Superb.

Annabel Knights

A perfect setting, we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful view to wake up to every day. Within easy reach of some amazing scenery. We will be back again. Thank you Gail and Nigel.

Kelly Greig

Hideaway has been finished to a high standard and has got everything you need, even the children got their own bathroom! It's location is fantastic and as long as you're not afraid of a small hill climb, the views are spectacular. Nigel and Gail were wonderful hosts and a real credit to holiday rentals. Don't be put off by the compact kitchen mentioned by others; it has everything you need and honestly I dont cook banquets when I'm on holiday so kitchen space really wasn't a problem. Plenty of books available to keep you occupied and an on hand washer and dryer proving invaluable in bad weather with kids. St Mawes itself is a great location and had it not been foggy all week we would have done more walking around the peninsular but rain or shine both cottage and location were a fab choice with some wonderful pubs to while away the evenings playing games with the kids. There are some steps to access the apartment so baby buggies might struggle but I fully recommend Hideaway to couples and families alike.

The cottage was in a spectacular situation and we were warmly welcomed by the owners. A brief but very enjoyable few days. The cottage was in a spectacular situation and we were warmly welcomed by the owners. A brief but very enjoyable few days.

Very attractive apartment, comfortably furnished and very well equipped. Enjoys fantastic views and is very conveniently situated. Gail and Nigel couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. We would certainly stay there again and would recommend it unhesitatingly.

Hideaway is a really special place to stay, the location is wonderful with stunning views of the bay. The accommodation is exellent, however the kitchen is on the small side when there are 4 persons staying although extremely well equipped. The bedrooms and the living room are very comfortable and the bathrooms first class. The terrace is large and again well equipped as is the laundry room. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and will definately return at some time in the future. Mr and Mrs Wakley are excellent hosts and we found them to be extremely helpful in every way. A wonderful find.

From the moment we arrived and met Gale we knew the stay was going to be a memorable one. The view from the property was second to none and we where able to walk into St Mawes with ease. The information we received on Roseland was invaluable although there was no need to go out as the position of the the property could not be faulted and the owners where very helpful. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday.

If you are looking for that dream holiday,in a dream location look no further! I don't want to sing the praises of Hideaway too much - we need to keep it a secret.

Hideaway is literally a hidden gem ! Nigel and Gail, the owners, were very welcoming and accommodating and helped us to settle in quickly. The flat has an amazing view of the waterfront at St Mawes and over to Place from the lounge and both bedrooms which provided all the entertainment we needed. The flat was furnished to a very high standard and equipped very well. If you are a cooking enthusiast, you may find the kitchen a little on the tight side, but it was very well equipped and we found it was great for our needs. Hideaway is also very handy for St Mawes - just a quick walk down a 'secret' alley (as named by our children) and you arrive in the centre of the village, which we found very useful for our regular ice-cream forays and eating out. A great base for a relaxing or active holiday !

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in St Mawes at Hideaway . It's a beautiful little Apartment that worked for the four of us, with everything we wanted to make us feel at home. The area is a little hilly so we got plenty of exercise! But the views from our rooms were absolutely stunning. Our hosts were friendly, helpful and informative.
