We have been to Mizpah cottage many times and it never fails to impress. Stunning location, quiet and isolated with excellent walks from the front door. Has everything you need for a break. We find the lounge particularly cosy at the end of a walking day, light the fire, put the soft lights on, open the wine and just relax - perfect. We will definitely be visiting again.
This is a really lovely cottage in a beautiful situation. Very comfortable and everything one could possibly need. Really good quality bedding and comfortable beds. Beautiful surroundings and SO quiet . We could hear only owls at night. My small dog was in seventh heaven, as were both of us. Not a single thing to complain about. Even the weather was perfect . Could have stayed forever. Thanks so much for a wonderful week.
Another wonderful stay , and I was so lucky with the weather. Lots of lovely walks despite the coast path being extremely muddy in places . Best roast lunch at The New Inn Veryan 6 veg all beautifully cooked . Carne beach was wonderful as was all the coast with high winds and huge waves . Looking forward to my next stay in 8 weeks .
We always love a stay in Mizpah, and have been coming back to many years. The location is glorious and the cottage so comfortable, with a delightful private garden and excellent kitchen.
Another lovely few days in Bohortha, this time I managed to drag my husband away from the farm. He so enjoyed it, has agreed to come with me in September . We found the Roseland Inn at Philleigh, about 15 min drive , fantastic food , lovely atmosphere , great service We went every evening it was so good . Another great find was the bakery cafe on the road to St Mawes Not recommended if you are trying to lose weight . Salted caramel and pecan slice was simply heaven. There special board was really good too . Weather forecast was rubbish but once again we were so lucky and had no rain until the journey home Thank you to Sheila for her excellent housekeeping skills Always so nice to walk in to a spotless cottage
This is a quaint, authentic old cottage, set by a farm with sea views (5 min walk to coastal beach). Great for coastal walks, sea fishing, crabbing, ferries to St Maws and Falmouth, for shopping. Reading previous reviews about shower/toilet being outside, I was worried about having to walk outside but it's in an outhouse, (which is attached to the house) it's really not that bad, just open the door, great for when you've been to the beach, lovely and warm and a bonus of having a nice sized bathroom room/toilet upstairs, to have a lovely bath if you don't like showers. Very clean upon arrival, lots of information and leaflets in the drawer. Lots of kitchen utensils. A games cupboard, which kept us entertained. You can get your groceries delivered by ASDA and Tesco's. Lovely local pubs for food etc. If you want to get away from the busy, hectic world we live in, this is the place to holiday, so peaceful and tranquil. Excellent service from Lara, would definitely come again, thank you for the happy memories.
Another wonderful week at Mizpah with blue skies and lots of sunshine Fantastic walks, although the Nat Trust not clearing the footpaths this year Path from Bohortha to Place Ferry very overgrown with high stinging nettles. Also St Anthonys Head to Porth , broken gate etc Not good for anyone wearing shorts or children Hopefully they will get on with it soon Its the same on Exmoor where I live .One Point I will make is that the garden at Mizpah is looking very untidy Weeds in front of cottage , overgrown hedge in other garden broken table left by shed
The only shame was there was nothing in the cottage not even washing up liquid or cleaning materials. A welcome pack as in many other cottages we have stayed in would be a thoughtful and welcoming idea, especially as the nearest shop is a ferry ride away! We loved the ferries and the walks and the lovely house and garden.
We had a very enjoyable stay in Mizpah, having first stayed here in the 90s. The cottage was as we remembered it - in a wonderful quiet location for some fabulous coastal walks, easy access to Place ferry for a visit to St.Mawes and a lovely garden with great views. The cottage is warm and comfortable with everything we required for our short break. Although a little apprehensive about the outhouse, it was fine and the shower was hot! Yes, a shower inside would be better but the advantages of this little cottage outweigh this minor inconvenience.
I have stayed in Mizpah several times and am always happy to go back. The views across to Falmouth are wonderful and there are excellent walks right on the doorstep. It's a comfortable cottage - more spacious that some of a similar period, and I especially like the deep window seats. Well equipped, although it never seems to have a corkscrew so I take my own!
Had a lovely week in Mizpah. Cottage quite isolated but perfect if youre looking for a quiet week away from it all. We walked (and walked), fished and sailed so great for the type of active but rural break we were looking for. Only slight quibbles were: - no shower over bath inside so had to draw full bath for each member of family every night. Not very practical with a number of guests. - There is shower in outhouse but this is cold and concrete/rough floor and involves going outside via kitchen. - BBQ dirty/left outside so we ended up not using - Garden has public cut through and most is overlooked: whilst great space its not particularly private.
I have walked through the little hamlet of Bohortha many times on previous visits to the Roseland . But this was the first time I had stayed It was the most perfect location for me and my dog Jasper, as we could just walk straight from the door and be on the coast path in 5 minutes. The circular walk down to Place Quayside, and then through the woods to Porth Farm , was lovely at that time of year, with all the flowers . Very peaceful but nice to watch the activity from the boats moored there . I usually visit in the Autumn so it was a very pleasant change. The cottage is very comfortable, and scrupulously clean . Be careful of having your bedroom windows open with a light on .I had huge May bugs flying in and they sound horrendous.I also had a bird fly in sometime during the day and unfortunately it left nesssages on the beautiful bedding. The neighbours in the other cottages were warm and friendly and made us feel at home I really didnt want to leave Mizpau , and I live on a lovely farm on Exmoor . Just what the Dr ordered after a hard winter and awful lambing I will hopefully come back every spring now I have found this amazing bolt hole
I LOVE Mizpah and had a brilliant week with my dog. Everything about the cottage is great. Its warm and cosy and Lara (the owner) has thought about everything anybody or family will need. My only negative feedback would be the lack of a shower indoors. There is only a hose above the bath inside. Downstairs there is an outside loo and shower but its blooming chilly! Apart from that it was my little piece of heaven. The dog loved it and sulked for three days straight after we left! Thanks to Lara and everybody from Cornwall Cottages.
Mitpah cottage is very pleasant and the location suits us for family purposes, but the one serious failing is the rudimentary shower arrangements which even for a very original house of this nature are totally inadequte. The very least one should expect is a proper shower over the bath with a screen or properly installed curtain, the provision of which would not be a great expense. I do not think we would rent this cottage again if this facility were in place The shower in the outside lavatory is not a suitable alternative
We had a lovely time but would have thought at the very least the owners could have installed shower mixer taps to the bathroom to provide a basic shower facility The outside shower room was dirty and not somewhere a reasonable person would use
Mizpah Cottage is a lovely place for a holiday. It was spotless on arrival & milk and biscuits were appreciated after a long journey. It is possibly the best equipped cottage we have stayed in, the only thing lacking is a shower oved the bath but that didn't spoil our sfay. We enjoyed the peace & quiet, sitting in the quaint garden, seeing the bats at dusk and hearing an owl hooting very near by. All in all a perfect country cottage.
We very much liked the cottage which was comfortable, clean, quiet and well located. It had everything needed for a comfortable stay and was great value . The only criticism was lack of a shower and it was difficult to park outside .
I really enjoyed our time spent at Mizpath, this homely cottage was cosy but roomy upstairs. The dining room was great with flag stone floor. The cottage garden with sea views which you can see from the bedroom was enchanting. Time has stood still here, it was like taking a step back. I like that the owners haven't changed structural features this adds to the atmosphere of the place. For those wanting solitude with a for legged friend you wont be disappointed! When the sun is shining you can pass the time away in the garden or a quiet walk through this quiet village. They have Wifi and TV so everything for an evening in. Looking forward to visiting Mezpath again in the near future.
We had stayed at Mizpah 20 years ago and adored it; it was tastefully furnished and every comfort addressed; there was a personal feel to it so we were very much looking forward to returning. Although the charm of the place still exists it is no longer the home from home it once was. It was essentially clean throughout but necessary items were either sparse or non existent eg. Toilet rolls, hand wash and dishwasher tablets. The curtains were the same as 20 years ago but now faded and shabby and the cushions were mildewed. The cooker, washing machine and dishwasher had seen better days ; the dials were worn and no instructions could be found However the beds, linen and towels were excellent. It's a charming cottage but now has a business feel about it.
Lovely cottage. The cottage was very dusty, we had to clean behind the bed, sofas and shelves as my partner has a dust allergy. There was some damp on the walls in living room.
We love the Roseland and this cottage is in our ideal location. The property has lots of character and original features and is true to itself. If you are looking for somewhere peaceful with wonderful views, away from the modern world, then this cottage is perfect. If you like contemporary living, this may not be for you. For us, it was sheer heaven (despite not having perfect weather).
Fantastic cottage in a great location, the garden is ideal for meals outside and a dog. Walks all round from the front door. Close enough to St Mawes and Portscatho for re-supplies but far enough away for peaceful walks.
Very well equipped, kitchen particularly. Stairs rather steep for us in our 70s,but manageable. Wonderful walks from the house and nearby. Lovely cliff paths and beaches, with marvellous views. Good pubs nearby, and lots of information about what to do, where to eat etc.Ideal spot for dogs. Bonus of fantastic weather all week. Service during stay:- We wanted to put NOT APPLICABLE because nobody (except neighbours) contacted us. We did not need any or expect it. Leave this off your records if you wish (but that is why we put OK because we could not enter N/A )
Mizpah is a lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. The other cottage owners in the row are very friendly and helpful. The only tiny comment I could make is that the garden furniture needs a bit of an overhaul and our mattress I found particularly firm! But overall we had a super stay and will be back!
A lovely cottage in a perfect location. Loved the sweet garden and views of the sea. Great white company bed linen, and a brilliant DVD collection - well chosen. My only negative was that only a tiny bit of loo roll was provided and no dish cloths and not even any coal to get a fire started on the first night. I understand that all those things are up to the occupier to buy, but hard to think of everything when you go on holiday, I think the minimum of these thing should have been there. We would love to return one day and would recommend to friends, but warn them to take loo roll and coal!!! Many thanks
