Enjoyable stay, comfortable, beautifully situated house, helpful housekeeping. Stairs can be challenging if you are frail, but otherwise well equipped.
This cottage has been decorated so looks far more impressive than the photographs. Its perfect for some incredible costal walk access and a lovely walk through to Veryan. Theres a great patio area for a brew or drop of something else. The accommodation was clean and tidy. Parking is a short walk up the road. £2 daily donation and no height restriction although its pretty narrow. We just had a gorgeous time there.
Location and views excellant. Furnishings and decor of cottage very tired. Unpleasant smell pervaded the kitchen! We did however enjoy our stay in Portloe.
Buses do visit Portloe, but ideally you'll need a car which can fleetingly be parked just outside, the car park being 100m up the hill. There is no shop. Having said that, Ocean View is a great little cottage. There is a patio with furniture for breakfasting outside, overlooking the cove. If it rains, there is a neat little conservatory doubling as a dining room, also looking out on the sea. The cottage has low doorways and a steep staircase, but I, at 73 and not very mobile, coped OK. The coast path is easily accessible and without more than a 250m walk affords great views back to the village (and Ocean View!) We spent a great week here - loved it. Nearby villages eg Portscatho and Gorran Haven are FAR busier.
Really lovely comfortable, slightly quirky, cottage wih a small patio looking directly at the sea. Portloe is an unspolit very quiet fishing village, with just a hotel and a pub, right on the beautiful coast of the Roseland peninsula. Don't come looking for bright lights! There are steep steps outside up to the cottage and again inside up to the bedrooms - the cottage is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The kitchen is well equipped - if I had to criticise I'd say the fridge is a little small but it has a good size freezer on top. There is also a small dishwasher and a washer-drier. We shopped in St Mawes as we happened to be there but there is a little shop in Veryan about 3 miles from the cottage which I believe is very good . There is no shop in Portloe itself so come prepared with basics for the first couple of days including washing up liquid , soap and dishwasher tablets as these may not be provided in the current covid pandemic. We had a plate of lovely welcome biscuits, hand made by the caretakers Alan and Mel,(who incidentally were extremely helpful) and there were also some strawberries and a pint of milk. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. You can park in the road just for loading/ unloading but otherwise need to park in the village car park a couple of minutes walk up the hill which is paid for via an honesty box, £10 for the whole week , and always had plenty of space. We walked on the coast path direct from the cottage and had days out to St Mawes and Carne Bay which were a short drive away. Nare Head is a must to visit - you can walk to it from the cottage or drive there ( as we did!) and park in the National Trust car park - the views are just stunning. All in all we had a great week - we'll be back!
Portloe is a beautiful fishing harbour and the house is located up the hill with a great view of the sea. From the patio you can sit and watch the fishing boats as they come and go. A cosy little house and lovely coastal paths to explore.
We had a great week in Portloe, its a very pretty little village above a cove. The house has a beautiful view. Its a shame that theres not enough hot water for a bath, which for me is essential especially on holiday. We took to boiling pans! Which cant be very economical. The kitchen needs some attention, theres no small pan, the bin is dirty and inadequate and theres not enough glasses. Other than that the house is comfortable .
Perfect holiday location with a beautiful sea view. Its a small house but makes it very cosy so we liked that. Absolutely loved our stay sat out on the patio. Customer service team at Cornwall cottages couldnt have been nicer and more helpful - Will definitely be using them again because of that!
Thanks to Richard at Cornwall Cottages for an easy booking system and all the information provided before our trip. Thanks to Mel and Alan who look after the property and were super quick to respond to my email when I had a question late one Sunday night. Quaint cottage was just what we needed for the week. Thanks all
What can I say,,,, a lovely property to stay in, a stunning .location, plenty of places to go and do within 45 mins and well worth the 5hr drivde!
This was book at very last minute, once we got the go ahead after lock down, we called and was sent a few places to stay. We chose Ocean View due to the cover Photo. We was not disappointed, the views are that good, place was ok, everything you need is in the property. Local shop at Veryan 150% must they are so nice. Pub at Veryan went above and beyond to make you feel at home. The weather was perfect which made it a better stay. Am looking forward to staying again next year.
Sufficient to say we will be booking for next year as we had such a wonderful time this year and loved the cottage.
Ocean View, Portloe is a great location and easily sleeps a family of four. The kitchen diner and verander both have excellent views overr the sea cliffs and harbour and the village is quiet. There were however a few niggles, some of which it seems were spotted by other residents previously and some of which we found. We arrived after around 6pm after a days travel, and without knowing the area had brought some food and some essentials - although perhaps naively had thought we wouldnt need everything. The place was clean but after getting unpacked we realised (and after having spent 1k for a week) there was no toilet roll. I mean, come on, this is basic; perhaps an oversight/mistake, but for us was hugely inconveniencing with a one year old and with no shops in the village this wasnt the best start. Most other aspects to the let were reasonable, with crockery, utensils, but weird things like salt but no pepper and after a while we began to suspect that the added extras (such as hand wash, three dishwasher tablets, even the washing up liquid) were only there because previous tenants had had to buy them. Other issues that have been raised by others - which we thought would have been sorted by the owners purely based on how much money being asked of guests - remained, such the poor quality were paper thin. Luckily we also brought our own fans, as the bedroom windows to the double single room didnt open and we would had fried had it not been for the fans. The bathroom window has also become overgrown and we noticed ivy had began to creep in. While this may add to to the rustic appearance of the window, it means that mildew builds up and the walls were getting patchy and very damp; even in th summer, so goodness knows how bad it would be in the winter. One final issue was for my son who couldnt work the DVD player, despite the instructions provided - the unit doesnt work with the frees at box overriding any commands. So all th dvds hed brought down to watch were rendered useless. Less of an issue for us sitting outside at night, but dont include it in the particulars if it doesnt work. As a I said, however these were mapinly niggles. The bathroom has a decent shower and bath, the kitchen functioned well with a fridge freezer and two ovens. The heating heated the water and its handy having a dishwasher and washing machine when youre away. Ive just felt the sheen was taken off by these issues which would have been easy to remedy from the outset by a more considerate owner/facilitator. 7/10 - as the location and views are worth the money, but dont expect your guests to go without essentials
Beautifully located house overviewing the bay of Portloe. Very calm and relaxing! The house and the terrific views are exactly like on the photos. Portloe is a nice little village, pub and public parking are nearby and the next (and only) shop is just a 10 minutes drive away. Dont miss to play table-tennis in the church on first Monday of the month! Unfortunately we found the house not well cleaned with a lot of dead flies and spider webs. The number of glasses, pots and plates were limited and the overall kitchen equipment was very basic. And so was the terrace furniture which was just for 2 people. The so-called welcome package was a small bottle of milk, some crackers and an open bag of potatoes. The property Manager never showed up. We felt that the service and the equipment was not adequate for the money we paid but we loved the location, the view and the village!
Portloe is a beautiful Cornish village that is largely unspoilt.Ocean View is ideally situated for exploring the coastal path. Although there was a table on the patio there were no chairs to sit on.Maybe they were in the outside storeroom that we were unable to access. It appears that the cottage is up for sale so this could well be our last visit.
Ocean View is a quaint cottage but its appeal is limited to those under 80 without hip or knee problems.as both the outside and inside stairs are quite steep. The two leather settees were very comfortable so much so that having sunk into them it was hilarious to watch this elderly couple trying o get to their feet.! Overweight people would have to sleep in the twin bedroom as the gap between the double bed and wall is very small. The photo of the patio is a little misleading as it doesn't show that it overlooks the road and houses, but the view is to die for. Parking is a bit of a problem as it is a uphill walk to the car park. Ocean View is nicely equipped if you are self catering but be aware The Ship Inn lunchtime menu is VERY limited and the staff not particularly friendly
Lovely cottage in a fantastic location. It was very warm and cosy. Conservatory/dining area in the kitchen had fantastic views over the sea. Lounge was very comfortable. The only criticisms are that the mattress and duvet on the double bed need replacing - they are a bit tired as are the tin opener and the potato peeler! Having said this we had a great time and would definitely stay in this cottage again.
especially we loved having breakfast or dinner outside on the terrace watching the fishingboats pass and listen to the Sound of the sea(gulls).
Ocean View exceeded our expectations: the view of the sea from the terrace and most of the rooms was extraordinary - one morning we were lucky enough to see a school of dolphins swimming out in the bay. The house had everything we needed, and we very much appreciated the welcome pack of goodies. Portloe is a gem - when we stayed at the beginning of July it wasn't busy but we had excellent weather. The coastal paths couldn't be nearer, and the views from them were outstanding. Recommendations: The Ship Inn; the mackerel fishing trip from St Mawes mentioned in the Roseland information pack; the walk round St Anthony Head. One small point - we would have appreciated a chair or two in the bedroom.
we couldn't have asked for more the cottage was all we had dreamed of and more it was a little piece of Cornish heaven and oh so tranquil and the welcome pack was a lovely warm welcome would certainly recommend
I stayed in ocean View with my mother in law and my dog. The views are amazing and after a day's travelling round Cornwall it was good to come back to the cottage, very welcoming and warm. Lots of places to visit around the area and great walks for dogs.
A cosy little cottage looking out to see with the basics provided for. The only improvement I would make would be the double bed, pillows and duvet which were not comfortable at all. Great location for running, walking and exploring with a lovely local pub.
Cosy warm clean cottage location great to other areas, will visit again soon nice arrival gift for us
Excellent location , lovely cottage nice and quiet with good walks. Nice coast line and good local beaches
Very peaceful location with fantastic views and coastal walks from the doorstep. Cottage clean and well equipped with patio area to sit out on and watch the comings and goings from the small harbour.sea view from all windows and it was lovely going to sleep and waking up to the sound of the waves. Asda delivered our weekly shop which was handy but local hotel and pub serving food if required.
Portloe is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle and just RELAX. Ocean View is ideally situated and lives up to its name. Safe swimming in the harbour. Easy access to the coastal path for those who enjoy walking. Great food in The Lugger and The Ship
Ocean View is a pretty cottage with a superb location and stunning views, particularly from the pretty terrace. We have stayed in the cottage two or three times previously and everything was just as lovely as we remembered. Well equipped, bright airy kitchen and comfortable beds. Small petty points would include not enough place mats for the table, could do with a tray to carry things outside and the bathroom could really do with a refresh - not being able to open the window is contributing to the dampness. Many thanks.
We booked ocean view to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday and it proved to be the most perfect place to be. The views are truly wonderful and exactly as advertised. The house itself was very clean, comfortable and well equiped and perfectly situated in Portloe, a delightfully quiet and charming place ideally placed for excellent coastal walks. The welcome card, biscuits and wine left by the caretakers was most appreciated and a lovely touch. The house was also warm and cosy and felt very welcoming. We were absolutely delighted by the beauty and tranquility of the roseland peninsular, no wonder its an area of outstanding natural beauty. We cannot reccomend it highly enough and will certainly return.
wow!!!!! breath taking views the house was amazing, local to all areas we explored as much as time allowed we had a few hiccups with the oven however on calling the caretaker he came out and sorted for us. I was a little disappointed with the cleanliness and having to wash kitchen plates glasses pans etc was not ideal, broken tile in the bathroom which I reported to the caretaker. It would be nice to have the lights left on for arrivals as no outside lighting nor street lights we used our mobile phones. Apart from that our stay was fantastic, open fireplace was cosy in the evenings we where never cold heating was on 24hrs. memories made bringing in the new year in this fantastic house and place all teenagers in my family loved it and would love to come back, a truly amazing place to stay and visit
