As with any local convienience store, they are a bit more expensive than the big supermarkets, but you will find virtually everything you need locally.
Co-op, St Mawes There is a Co-op supermarket in St Mawes, which is open from 8am to 7.30pm daily and has all you would expect from a small supermarket and a little bit more.
Ralph’s, Portscatho is a similar general shop and in our opinion currently offers the best quality on the Roseland. In addition, they match supermarket prices for wine which is particularly good news!
Londis have shops in both Tregony and at the Jet Garage between Tregony and Ruan Highlanes.
Roseland Stores & Post Office, Veryan is the only shop in Veryan, selling a wide range of groceries, fresh bread and vegetables, off-licence, national lottery, cards.
Roseland Inn Farm Shop – You won’t find anything as exotic as bananas or avocados, but you will find a small selection of fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables, such as Cornish new potatoes, strawberries and broad beans. They are open 11am-3pm daily and the shop is next door to the Roseland Inn at Philleigh.
Butchers & Meat
St Mawes Butchers has an excellent butcher’s shop, just up the lane behind Millers Estate Agents by the Harbour. Normally only open until about 3pm and earlier at weekends, so make sure you get there first thing.
Andy Day in Portscatho also has an excellent butchers. Again, not normally open that late in the day, so try to visit first thing.
Humfreys Farm Shop on the main road north of Tregony has a butchers cabin alongside with limited opening hours. Tel 01872 530110
Great Gargus Farm will sell you a whole or half grass fed organic lamb, butchered to your requirements , but you need to order in advance. Telephone 01872 530274.
Lobbs Farm Shop is close to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and have a good range of local meat should you be in the area.
Do be aware that fish supplies will be dependent on the weather!
St Mawes Fish Shop is right on the quay at St Mawes. Fresh fish is caught by a local boat. If the cabin is not open, you can all Angie Green on 07792 220821 and she will certainly be able to help you.
Curgurrel Farm has a little shop which is signposted just off the main road by Trewithian at Rosevine. They will supply you with local crabs, lobsters and scallops plus locally caught fish. 01872 580243.
Ralph’s in Portscatho always has a small selection of fresh fish and seafood
Atlantis Smoked Fish on the main A390 Truro to St Austell road at Grampound has the best locally smoked fish. Try their kiln smoked Salmon, absolutely delicious!
Apart from the general stores, there are some superb vegetables available from smaller producers.
Adrian & Tom Glanville’s stall in St Just is just local legend! Although it does not tend to be stocked in high season, at other times, expect to see wonderful varieties of cauliflower, local swede, kale, sprouting broccoli and much more. There is an honesty box so please don’t abuse their trust!
Humphrey’s Farm Shop as above, has a superb selection of locally grown vegetables
The Blue Carrot was new in 2008. A delightful little vegetable garden with a superb range of vegetables that will be cut or dug to order! Just north of Gerrans at the junction with the Polhendra & Lanhay Road, but be careful because it is a narrow farm entrance.
Fresh free range farm eggs including duck, quail and goose eggs, are available from Lisa Osborn’s stall at Treverris Farm on the King Harry Ferry road north of the Turnaware turning from St Just. Again, there is an honesty box.

The farmers market is in Truro every Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

Truro is the nearest and has the best shopping in Cornwall. It really is a beautiful city, worth a few hours to explore, but if it is a rainy day, make sure that you get there early.
There is a cash point outside the Barclays Bank in St Mawes and both the Post Offices in St Mawes and Portscatho with provide cash facilities. The Co-op will give cash back with purchases over £ 10. There is also a cash machine inside the Victory Inn, St Mawes or Ralph’s in Portscatho.

St Just in Roseland has one the most beautiful churchyards in England and is well worth a visit even if you do not wish to attend a service. There are regular 8am, llam and 6pm services every Sunday. The Catholic church is in the middle of St Mawes and their service is at 10am each Sunday.
The St Mawes Hotel next to the harbour in St Mawes has free WiFi and if you are a member, the St Mawes Sailing Club will also provide WiFi.
