The Roseland Inn – 01872 580254
The Roseland Inn is one of Cornwall’s unique country pubs. Located in the tiny, rural village of Philleigh, this pub oozes country charm. Full of character, it is a superb pub to visit. You will find some good, well cooked local produce although it is not the cheapest place and it is a little more restaurant food than pub food. It would be great if they did some good old fashioned pub favourites, but what they do is lovely and you will get a nice meal. Do expect to wait a little in the height of summer as they can only cook so quickly! Do book before you go.
The Smugglers Cottage – 01872 580309
Not far from the King Harry Car Ferry, The Smugglers’ Cottage, dating from the 15th century, is situated at Tolverne, on the Roseland (Eastern) side of the river Fal. During World War II the Cottage was requisitioned and the road and beach built as an embarkation point for the D-Day landings. The Cottage is now operated by the famous Tregothnan Estate who have refurbished the old cottage and a serving a wide range of meals and refreshments from lunchtime through to the evening. The Estate is particularly well known for its Cornish grown tea and local plum jam, so cream tea is the speciality here! The Smugglers Cottage closes for the winter months usually from around late September or early October until April.
