Galleries and Gift Shops on The Roseland, Cornwall
St Mawes, Portscatho & Veryan all have art galleries and gift shops, but here is just a selection.
Waterside Gallery, St Mawes
Waterside Gallery is situated on the waterfront, between the harbour and St Mawes Castle. Established in 1990, and still in the same family ownership, the gallery is open every day. There is a constantly changing display of work by accomplished artists; many of whom are locally based and who all draw inspiration from this beautiful area.
The Square Gallery, St Mawes
Located in the arcade next to the entrance to the main car park in St Mawes, there is a large range of works to choose from.
Veryan Galleries, Veryan
The gallery, now established for over 25 years, is situated between two of the landmark ‘Round Houses’ at Veryan Green, about one mile from the sea on the Roseland Peninsula. Owned by artists Samantha and Stephen Dexter, the displays feature a range of quality original paintings predominantly by established Cornish artists. In addition there are a wide range of prints, photographic works, ceramics and jewellery. Expect to see works by Robin Leonard, William Nash, Jenny Wheatley, Mally Francis, Charles Francis, Philip Lyons, Ian Shearman and Michael Tregunna, as well as those of the owners and many others. The gallery has a long track record in commissioned paintings and murals made to customers requirements, ranging from the unique and contemporary to reproductions of old masters.
The New Gallery, Portscatho
Chris Insoll’s gallery right on the Square in Portscatho is an artist-run space specialising in the work of established West Country artists, most of whom also exhibit in London. At the New Gallery there is often the opportunity to meet the artists as well as to buy work from them. Amongst regular exhibitors at the gallery are: Chris Insoll, Lynn Golden, Eric Ward, Trevor Felcey, Endel White, Denis Abraham, Grace Gardner, Andrea Insoll, Paul Clarke, Yvonne Fuller and Marrianne Golden.
Overlooking the sea in Portscatho, the light and airy Spindrift Gallery was opened by Cynthia Greenslade as a showcase for not only her own work but that of a range of Cornish artists and craftspeople. Paintings predominantly of the Roseland reflect the stunning countryside and coastline. This theme is echoed through the selection of ceramics, jewellery and glassware to be found in the gallery. There’s also a range of hand-painted furniture, decorative items and cards that are exclusive to Spindrift. Regular exhibitors include Anne Preston, Adele Stanbridge (Hastha Kala), Chris Prindl, Frank Phillips, Jane Adams, Jo Wojtowycz, Kerry Raymond, Laetitia Miles, Livvy Wiegand, Lucy Kemp, Murray Tyers, Nick Orsler, Sue Gregor and Penny Gray.
